what do you think of this board?
« on: July 16, 2008, 07:23:58 AM »
hey all, just wanted to say hi, its my first post.  i was turned onto this site by Steamroller.  he said to come to the darkside cuz theres cookies.  so where my cookies at?  i'd like snickerdoodle please...  ;D

anyways, i'm Keala.  live in Haleiwa, Oahu. new to the sport, been at it about 1.5 months.  done a few races. i'm on a 9'6 with a rasta colored (red/yellow/green) homemade paddle.  holler if u see me splashing around out there!

i'm looking to get a board thats more race efficient.  found this one, looks kinda funky tho.  ??? i was just wondering what your opinions/speculations on this board is.  the only info i have of it is that its made by Mark Jackola...dimensions are 14'6"x25"x5". my current board is 9'6''x27''x3.75'' made by Mitsu.  thanks in advance!  aloha.

Mark Jackola is a very good shaper from the old school. He's pretty underground and doesn't seek attention but his surfboard shapes are really nice. Kinda Skip Frye - ish.

This board looks interesting but 25 wide, seems like a torture stick.

I remember seeing that ad on craigslist. For the price, seems like a good deal to get in to downwinders for your weight.

hi steamroller...so where the cookies at?!?  u said the darkside had cookies....

 ;D

dunno if its hollow.  haven't seen in person yet.  i think the guy is still vacationing on big island.

fast would be good.  esp after today's race.  i was on a 14' that was just ridiculous.  and not in a good way either. lol.

Not taking anything away from it's owner or the shaper, but that board was WAY to much for you. Nevertheless Teene is always willing to help....... :)

I think this board really would fit you good. Especially with your size. :)

Just my two cents....... ;)

Those have been around for a while. They are foam core. Make sure to check the fin box really well. A lot of these hand glassed boards have leaky boxes and it is a nightmare to correct.  I have paddled this board several times cruising, small bumps. I like is but it is a little outdated. If it is in okay shape it would be great inthe quiver, and if the price is right...

sam...yeah, i kinda came to that conclusion too.  :)  but yes Teene is absolutely wonderful, that was his paddle i was using too.  first time i ever raced with a real paddle. that was awesome. lol.

BI Mike...the guy says he'll let me borrow it for a bit, so thats super cool.  might try it in the race this weekend.  either that board or my friend's 11'x25''x4'' longboard.

testing out all these boards is kinda like trying on really heavy clothes before you buy.  ;D
