Back in the Hood
« on: July 28, 2012, 10:06:06 AM »
Did an accidental downwinder this morning. Meant to just go do some sprints and get a workout, but the wind that wasn't supposed to be blowing was. Went from the Event Center to Mosier, catching nice glides all the way. Then turned around and ground it out to get back. Sheesh. I got my workout and then some.

Good to be back. Our raised beds have exploded with vegetables while we've been gone. So much Basil we're gonna have pesto on our oatmeal. Hood River is, of course, gorgeous. The mountains are so crisp and clean against the sky. Standing in the parking lot at the grocery store, just blown away. I must have looked like an idiot. Massive snow-covered peaks in two directions.

The folks that are redoing the landscaping (Diane's birthday present) have made great progress. It's going to be quite a yard. Both Sam (the dog) and I like it pretty well so far--lots of place to sit. The squirrels seem pretty impressed too.

Crazy how much we like it here. Got to go to the Saturday market, and today is the last day of the fair. There's a farm tour tomorrow with 13 farms showing off their stuff, then outdoor movies in the park, music all week in the Ruins and at various venues. Lots of paddling to do, and I'm going to try to get a few more whitewater runs in, though the rivers are getting a bit bony. Maybe do a couple of runs in Post Canyon if the knee behaves, or just some long rides in the three wheeler.

Got a nice big pork shoulder to slow barbeque. I do a thing that's kind of halfway between Carnitas (without the boiling lard) and pulled pork. Gotta find some home made corn tortillas to go with.

Ahhh, summer. What a place.

Hood River is a magical place. Came  to exchange some boards and join a down winder. Was early so I did a Wells Island lap. The wind was dying and had to usher some short boards to the Island. They couldn't make it back to the hook with gear rolled up so I became a ferry. Next time I will follow  your lead and do the Mosier trek. Maybe from Mosier to HR and back so its a pay to play run.

I'm thinking I may actually make it up there this week sometime.  Easier to get there from Portland than from Australia.

Give a yell if you do Mike, we'll go for a paddle or something. Might have some wind. And DJ, if you come, mi casa su casa. Got boards, got bikes, got windsurf gear. If we get tired of you you can stay in the Airstream.

It is possible to eat too much pesto  ;D
In theory, there should be no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is...

Do it. Diane will be out of town, nothing to do bu play. If I can't can't get you injured no one can.
