I'll let you in on my secret method to find good sites to learn.  Look for the sites where women post.  If the boys treat the girls with enough respect that they are comfortable having a voice, then most likely it will be a place where nubies are treated with respect.

That simple rule brought me here.  As a nubie and a woman, with no knowledge of the sport other then having seen one person paddling flat water and thinking "that would be a great platform to photograph swamps from".  From first paddling a friends old wind surfer, to building my own board, to learning enough to modify construction to suit my needs, it is all here.  Want to expand your SUP horizons?  I didn't, but now want to try racing, downwinding, maybe even surfing.  White water intrigues me, but reality gets in the way.  I did not know any of these things existed before coming here to learn about flat water.

Hi Mike,

Looks like you are in good company with the guys at PBO! Tell them Chase said hello. Check out my site www.WaterMonkeySUP.com. I have technique and training information and videos posted regularly. I also have a list of all the Florida events and news to keep you up-to-date. I hope this helps!

Welcome.
This hasn't been updated in awhile but there is an RSS feed of blogs here on the zone.
http://www.standupzone.com/rss.htm

http://www.kenalu.com/ for obviously biased reasons, but the board and paddle showcase despite its age is still a great place to see what general size and shape tend to work for given folks and there is 5 years of recent SUP history in its pages.....the paddle info is pretty good too... ;D

Best place though is right where you're at. Post a question, get a bunch of answers and maybe a few questions back. If you're asking questions about gear or technique post some stats, ht, wt, experience, etc.. to help get better answers.
