And politicians wonder why we hate paying taxes. Coming next....SUP cop details will be required for events. Unfrickinbelievable!

Boards probably donated by Tahoe SUP. The guy in blue is Ronny Ayers who works for Tahoe SUP & if you look at race results he would catch you. Thank god he is does not wear a gun.

I see it like neighborhood policing. A bike cop isn't much good for anything in my neighborhood (in Hollywood they sneak up on drug deals) but it's good to see them out, they can cover some ground and go into areas a car wouldn't.

I see this as shoreline/beach/campground patrol on busy holiday weekends, search and rescue assist and general goodwill/community outreach.

Notice... we are talking about the Tahoe cops on here. It worked.

Cowboy, I read it the same way

I have always thought that it would be great for the waterfront towns to have SUP's available.
They can get up close and personal in the water environment.

Just an overall useful tool, that would be smart to employ.

Plus... it might have a positive effect on the attitude of the Cops and the public
How can you have a bad day if you are on a SUP?;D

Are those Tahoe Rubicons?  I hopped on one of those today at Winnipesaukee!

I'd like to see how they shoot and paddle at the same time.  Those adjustables probably won't help either.

What they should do is come up with the 007 type of paddles that can double as guns.  Or would that be more Maxwell Smart?

The oooold gun in the paddle trick...that's the second time I've fallen for that this month!

Seriously, that'd be pretty sweet duty to pull. Cops in my city fall all over themselves to get on the bike units.
In theory, there should be no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is...

Interesting.  When I lived in Missoula Mt, I met a mountain bike riding cop.  Theysaw things and people that others didn't.  They could report, get assistance for things that were never noticed before.  I think that would be true of SUP cops.  I don't see them as policing SUP'ers, as much as a good presence on the water.
Regarding the money issue, maybe they have had enough problems on the water, to justify this.  The MT guys were regular cops, most of the year.   Just in the summer, the city found that putting them on Mtn bikes made a lot of sense.

From a public servants perspective, this is a great idea as long as it is coupled with a strong PR campaign to EDUCATE the public about the duties of a SUP cop. SUP is an excellent way to be visible, active and available at times of high tourist population, or events. Similar to a bike cop, these guys can quickly assist where needed to supplement the regular police force. Not only that, but as we all know, SUP's can be amazing water rescue tools. I hope Truckee PD has a successful campaign with this, and that there are positive outcomes for many people.

Here's a mystery for them to solve:

What sunk this 'eyesore' $3.2m yacht?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2171740/Why-did-3-2m-yacht-sink-Lake-Tahoe.html
http://www.sierraroseyacht.com/

I can solve that one. The insurance was too heavy.
