Bear Glacier Alaska SUP session
« on: July 04, 2012, 11:40:38 PM »
We are visiting family in AK and had a chance to go out of Seward to Bear Glacier on a SUP trip of a lifetime.  Chris and Pam the guides from Liquid Adventures really took great care of us.  if you ever have a chance to make it to AK this is something you need to add to you bucket list!  I hope you enjoy the pictures even though they really do not give the icebergs beauty any justice.

Great pics!  Amazing scenery!  That water looks cold to be doing yoga.  You have to be real confident to be doing that stuff.  What was the outside temp? and the water temp?

Thanks for posting!

Glaciers are so cool and your pics are stunning.  The back bend being even a higher degree of difficulty than the headstand, especially standing from the back bend.

I was lucky enough to see a glacier up in Bella Coola BC.  on a snowboard.  Frozen ice... frozen time

Headmount - I am jealous b/c snowboarding out of a heli or on a glacier is on my bucket list still!  Some day I hope to make it up here to visit during the winter as well.

Deadbait - I believe that the water temp was 39 and the outside temp was high 40's to low 50's.  But with the dry suits it was perfect and very comfortable.

My wife totally agrees with you Headmount.  Everyone like the headstand photos but the bridge is much harder on the board.  Especially in a drysuit with a pfd on.

Awesome! Looks like you had fun.
To be there on such a calm day is a gift...
It seems like there must be some sort of sound coming from the ice when its that peaceful.

Glad you had your camera  :)

Supthecreek - you are right there were all kids of cool sounds coming from the icebergs.  Some of them were saying STAY AWAY (making a crackle noise like putting an ice cube in a warm drink) and others called us in for a closer look.  If they were making too muck noise we would avoid them.  What was really cool is that every piece of ice was totally different in color size and texture.  We were also able to hear the thunderous roar of the glacier cabbing.   It was as loud as thunder and must have lasted at least 30 seconds.  Just wish that we had been in position to see it happen.

Awesome adventure. Stoked to get to meet you in Tahoe, we need to get our Central Valley Crew up to Redding and grab a paddle with ya!

Like wise Paddlenorcal!  If we don't run into you at Tahoe Nalu then maybe we can catch you on our way down for BOP.
