Maui Racing In The Winter

The winter season brings big waves and periods of calm winds to Maui - but what races are held besides the MCKC (Maui Canoe Kayak Club) during that time of year? The MCKC races are great, but are there other races in between to fill in the gaps?

None that I know of. Other than MCKC races the racing season starts in the spring.

Well there is a race of sorts if you do runs while there is surf.  You're racing for the safety of your board and averting a very long swim.  If you do enough runs in the winter, you will encounter this situation.  Believe me, I've humped harder in those situations than any race I've done... and I haven't always won.   Was lucky and even though I damaged a rudder once,  I never broke a board in half.  But that possibility is entirely within the range of possibilities. 

So if it's a windy winter like last year, you'll get your heart rate up no doubt.

Actually I was thinking that anytime Boyum and I hit the water it's a race. But I didn't say that. Especially since the only time I've "beat" him is in flatwater.
