CABO....
« on: June 11, 2012, 09:59:26 AM »
Just got back from a week trip to CABO...AWESOME place for SUP!!! Stayed in San Jose Del Cabo and had a solid south swell running all week. East Cape offers incredible breaks for SUP, uncrowded and a good vibe. Tourism seems down so had a great deal on 1 bedroom condo on the golf course ($550 for the week)....food was great...weather still not too hot....people very friendly...and its just a beautiful place to go....

And best of all....check out SUP MEXICO across from Old Man's....very good selection of rental boards and equipment so no hassle taking equipment down there...I got a 9'6 PSH WAA (which I have in my quiver at home)...plus they had a number of nice looking Hobies.

All in all probably the most user friendly SUP trip I know of!!!...With access to some world class surf!!!  TDE

My buddy and I are heading down for a SUP and Longboard trip the first week of Aug. This is our 2nd trip to Baja, we are also avid kite surfers and spent a few months in Los Barilles and La Ventana a few years ago after the economy fell apart back in 09.

I will apologize in advance for asking you the typical annoying tourist questions..so here goes:

1) certain beaches or sections to go to? CSL? CSJ?  Scorpion Bay? Places to avoid?

2) We are leaning towards bringing boards. Do most people bring or rent? Do you have an inventory of boards? We are big guys, 190-220. I'm on a 176 L Stretch, buddy on Naish Mana 9'5"
Do we need to reserve boards (SUP and longboard) in advance and a specific model?

3) Any inns you recommend where we can keep boards inside in secure area at night. Good bang for buck, fun etc.. for two single guys.

5) I'm sure CSL is fine but any hairy, dangerous incidents down there with tourists, robberies etc.. places to avoid?

6) How is the swell this time of year, crowded at all or slow season?

Thanks so much!

Regards,
Greg

If I were to go down there, I'd take one of those fat wheel mt. bikes that DJ took pics of.  Then trailer up down the beach till you found a break of your own.  Of course having your bike where you left it on your return from the water might be an issue.  But maybe solvable.

^^^Looks like old mans.  Most people are suping at the rock.  Old Man's can be a shit show and you might kill someone on a sup.  Beginners flock there and drop in on you with no regard.
As for boards, you can go see the girls at costa azul surf shop.  They have tons of glass surf and sup.
Or across from cabo surf hotel, Mike Doyles place has sups as well.
If you are driving, Scorpian Bay is the shit.

baja terra nova?  I have good friends who live right on the beach, two door roll up garage.  That place is sick.
