Pre Kenalu, I'd gently wetsand the gloss off the QB shafts and carbon grip, 400-600 grit should work fine.  With KeNalu, the positive grip prevents hand fatigue, allows for a loose relaxed grip, with no wobble.  In the long run, this helps save energy in distance or race paddling.
Takeo,
Wet sand the handle. That's something I didn't think about.
Do you wet sand the gloss off your Ke Nalu handle also?

I haven't felt the need to sand my KeNalu Ergo T but I did have a couple slips in transition.  I'm sure sanding might help but the Ergo T fits well enough that I don't need to sand it for better grip.  I also keep my hands free of suntan lotion and body oils.

Nothing to add...I have a KeNalu as well...

The real reason I clicked on this thread is to read the inevitable wisecrack from PDX.  With a subject line like this, you're basically putting it on the tee for him.

Wait for it....
Sorry--can't think of anything.
Oh? let me help you

Safe paddling means always wrapping your shaft, unless you and your paddle are monogamous with each other.  I can't believe the number of you on the edge, paddling bareback.  As for sanding your bare shaft, Pinocchio says "If you got sandpaper, who needs a girlfriend"

I'm not going down the road on this thread.  Last time I spoke of the 'shaft' word, i stuck my foot in my mouth.  But ditto for me with my Ke Nalu. It's clean.

After looking at pictures of my paddle flexing last weekend I was thinking about starting a thread asking how much shaft flex is ok and when to worry about bending it too much.
I'm having second thoughts now.

I don't use anything.
I like my shaft tastefully naked.

This may sound crazy, but instead of using some kind of tape for a grip, what about using some kind of stretchy, rubbery sleeve that would fit snugly on your shaft?  The thing that comes to mind is--a balloon.  The long kind.  You could just cut the end off and stretch it over the handle and slide it down the  shaft to wherever you wanted it.  You could reposition it easily, and there'd be no adhesive to deal with if you ever took it off.  They even come in colors.

The only thing better would be if they made some balloon-like thing that was actually ribbed, for more grip.  Of course if they made something like that that was lubricated, you wouldn't want that.

Wow.  I just found something in my wallet that is just like what I described in my last post.  I tried it but with the size I had it was too loose for a paddle shaft grip.  I do think I just found my next board bag, though.
