Where does you screen name come from?
« on: May 26, 2012, 10:36:26 AM »
Some I get  mine is obvious. It came from when I used to surf Santa Cruz and north pacific  I used to sit outside   fear of rogue waves  clean up sets etc. leashes were crap then,   I would have to call out for my friend  Blind Ed ( aka coke bottle  lense glasses)so he 'd know when to start paddling outside.   so where dose your name come from Starnd leper  do you jump over or of the the groins, Pono?  what is Pono.  how about beasho?   soif you have a funny story behind your  name post it>

Not all that funny, but....

When trying to sign up for this forum with more common screen names that I use (or used) elsewhere, I could never get any of them "approved" by the mods, so after reading the "Having a hard time registering for the forum?" thread, and being told to, "Please select a name that makes sense at first glance as a SUP user name".

I figured that "Paddle" made sense, but that that was kind of mundane, and since making multiple, fruitless attempts at getting a name accepted was driving me "crazy"......."PaddleCrazy" was born, and thankfully, finally accepted.  Hooray!!....Aaarrgghh.

may be a bit deep, but it's how i live my life…unchained from societal norms and expectations…built to help others and serve a higher power…living happy, joyous and free is my goal, which is exactly how i feel on my board in the ocean  ;D

I picked this a few years ago...I have the same name on a couple of other forums that I visit (TripAdvisor and Slickdeals). I like consistency.

Slatch is the calm quiet water between swells.  Jim is what my ultra creative and caring parents chose to name their little bundle of joy close to 50 years ago, after my godfather talked them out of the name "Ennis" .  Apparently I owe a debt of thanks to my godfather's skill as an amateur poet.

There's an old one of these threads somewhere.

One of the 1st websites I signed up for many years ago asked for a user name, I picked the 1st thing I saw. I've used it ever since. I hit this while mowing between the rows of our tree farm. It was on my desk as a paperweight. Dates from between 5,000 and 8,000 years ago.

I live on Pono road in Maui, and my name is Bill.

When Dave Kalama heard that was the source of my name he was aghast. He saidn "You didn't know what Pono was when you took that name?!!?" and looked at me like I was a moron. It was kind of moronic. Pono is one of those very complicated Hawaiian words that picks up shades of meaning from context. But it's kind of saying "striving to be the best of all possible Bills". I would have been better off calling myself JesusBill, or maybe BuddhaBill.

It's not hard to pick me out of a crowd. My 18' board looks like a 14'r with me on it. My paddle is 91" long. I don't fit in most cars. I dunk when I walk through a door way. They rarely have size 14 shoes in stock. I don't need a ladder. I can tell who doesn't clean the top of their refrigerators. The weather is different up here. Most common question I get asked, "How tall are you?" Oh, and I grew up at the beach. Dude...

It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Balance is a strange concept. Seemingly simple, static, easy. But we all know what it takes to achieve balance, in life, career, paddling. Takes a lot of effort and dedication to achieve balance. So, one needs to be fit to be able to muster the effort to achieve...balance !  So, a lot of effort, concentration and fitness to be...balanced, static, at ease.....or, does fitness need to be approached in a balanced way, so one does not bias the effort to one side too much, rendering the final product...unbalanced?...i'm still questioning myself, so, in the meantime...be well !
