9'6" vs 9'10" Fanatic Allwave
« on: April 27, 2012, 02:22:31 PM »
Has anyone surfed both of these boards? Very interested in this board with all the great reviews it has been getting. I weigh 235 lbs. Have read about comparisons between the 9'2" and 9'6" but nothing about the 9'6" vs 9'10". Thanks!!

Ok

The 9'6 and the 9'10 are variations of the same theme. It is a FISH design meant to be surfed RAIL TO RAIL to generate speed. They both are very loose. At your size you could go either way if you are hitting the road for better waves the 9'6 will serve you great. The 9'10" might be an easier transition and it will ride the same but may take more effort to put it where you want it on a wave The 9'10 will catch waves better (easier)

BTW the 9'6 is available and I have a BUNCH of 9'10's that should be available to ship early the week of 4/30

Fast and loose? Sounds great! The ex gf was fast and loose too. Not so great. You can compare a new SUP to a woman. Beautiful. Fast. Loose. Can give you the ride of your life. But can also hurt you. Haha. Don't get too attatched because they both might break. It does sound like the making of a good movie, Stoneaxe. You are so right. Glassy waves and bikinis. I am on a mission now. Thanks for the kind and motivating words. Jim- Thanks for your response. How much for one of those sweet rides? Called your shop the other day after you had closed. I will call back. And I will definately post epic pics.

My 9'10" 191L AllWave just arrived, here are a few pics. Wide around the middle, sorta like its new owner (gotta work on that).

It was a pleasure doing business with JimK (http://www.extremewindsurfing.com/)

Not sure how it compares to the 9'6"...but this weekend will find out how she performs in 1'-3'!

I'll be real interested to hear how it does.  How big are you weight wise if I may  and how long  have you been  at this?

Stoked on the aloha from my fellow Zoners once again.  In what turned out to be a great SUP weekend for me…2 races and 3 new boards (race and surf sups for me and touring board for the wifey).  The mighty SUPtheCreek picked up my Allwave down in NJ from JimK and sat in 5 hours of traffic.  JimK was great to talk to and gave me a sweet discount on my board just for being a Zoner. Thats the kind of surf shop folk i like to deal with  ;D

Hope to get out soon and score some waves with STC…i know he is looking forward to the next big day  :)

Had a fun 2'-3' surf session with the 9'10" AllWave at Gator Beach in Coronado, and looking forward to more. VERY stable in the surf zone. I've flat water paddled it a few times on the Bay as well, and was surprised how well it tracks for a wave-oriented board. I was getting 4-5 strokes on each side compared to 6-8 on my Amundson 11'6".  The AllWave was definitely much easier to handle in the surf than the big Amundson. Enjoying getting back into surfing after decades of giving it up, in favor of windsurfing.

This weekend I'll try to get out at Cardiff Reef for SUS and paddling to the North.  If you see a 5'10" 250 lb guy on the AllWave that would be me.

Have fun at Cardiff Reef... my old stomping grounds... I worked right across the street at the "Fishhouse West" for 3 years .... love that place ;D

I had in my excited little hands 3 Allwaves at the same time...
9'2 - for Free2Bme
9'6 - mine
9'10 - for Cape Kook

so I took some photos for you Allwave info seekers

My take
when I saw the 9'2, I felt it was very similar to my 9'6, just a bit smaller. I have not demo'd.
when I saw the 9'10, I was surprised to think how much bigger it was than my 9'6
although my 9'6 sits exactly between the others, there seemed to be a quantum leap to the 9'10... just my feeling (see "Good Perspective Photo)

The tail on the 9'2 & 9'6 looks very similar to me
The tail on the 9'10 seems to be significantly wider... may be my eyes ??? (see Tail Photos)

I paddled the 9'10... it was incredibly stable and yet felt very loose underfoot. Paddled with lots of glide and was wicked tempted to buy it for smaller or challenging conditions...
(I opted for a 2012 Cabrinha 10'8 x 34 C Series Wood... so I would have a more longboard feel in small waves and great paddler for flatwater....It's just a totally different option)

I really want to surf both the 9'2 and the 9'10 so I can give a thorough review of all 3
