Wax?  With your level of experience, if you use wax you will find it can become bloody messy.  You will end  up with as much on the paddle than the board.  Then "waxing up" is as elusive an art as mastering a SUP.  What wax to use is another learning curve.  Leave the board wax up in the sun and all is ruined.

My advice: use a pad!

Ive only run into one guy that sup surfs no pad-Jeff from Cbad-hes light and strong and rips hard.
He just liked the way it looked and grew up short and long boarding and resisted the urge to pad his board and now he can surf either with pad or without-its always intrigued me though but im a wuss now and i like that cushy pad under me.!
he rides a 7-11 to 8-2 Nectar with a cool acid streak paint multicolor graphic.
Like i said i would like to take one out someday and try it out though.

I'm told most of the guys on the Stand Up World Tour are using wax to keep the weight down. Me I'm going to use X-Tracks on my new board. The refined sealed edges make a lot of sense, I also think they shed water fast.

Makes the xtrak pads. If you find that the xtrak pre-cut shapes don't fit the board the way you want.

I have an xtrak pad on my 10'5"....super grippy, very comfortable and durable. Highest quality pad (but it does cost more).

I have 3/4 padded board and want to traction the nose for hang 5s... ???

Is there any problem in using wax just for the nose, or can wax somehow on part of the board effect the pad's traction?

Does anybody ever use Monstertraction AND wax?  I was just thinking a little wax on top of that rough surface may complement each other   ???

Wax is messy, but way better grip and feel than a pad in the waves, in my opinion. Go with the wax, its lighter too.
