Naish Mana 9'0"...former and current users
« on: April 03, 2012, 07:10:34 PM »
Hello all,

Found a great deal on a 2011 Naish Mana 9'0". Do you folks think it will be suitable for someone at 200 pounds? I am trying to step down from a Nectar 9'6" Cinco and a 9'3" C4 Subvector.

Thanks in advance for any help...

Former user here.

200lb is no problem for that board.
Turns smooth, and fast. I moved since to the 9'0 hokua.

The Mana tippy? Are you sure you're not talking about the Nalu?
Nalu in 9'0'' is tippy for a 200lb person....the Mana is like a boat.

I've had it out in ultra choppy on shore almost double overhead conditions, and it definitely not very tippy IMO.

Experienced SUPers would not think its tippy at 200 lbs.

I owned the sub vector and mana.

The stability is in the same neighborhood as the mana. Mana might be slightly more stable. I never surfed them side by side. I prefer the mana.

I'm heavier than 200# I can use the Mana 9Ft in PERFECT conditions.

SubV 9'3 may not be as stable but in our surf conditions it actually "surfs" better

Curious, what do you like better about the way the sub vector surfs?

I was 200 lbs when I owned them both.

For me, the sub vector is slightly faster. It has 1/2" less tail rocker.
The sub vector is sensitive to having a big enough fin to hold, yet extra big fins slow it down. The rails don't hold as well, so the sub vector ends up needing fin swaps depending on wave size. The rail catches and dumps the rider way too often. It only turns well from the tail.

The Mana rails hold like crazy and it rolls rail to rail better. The rails never caught for me. It surfs well from more than just the tail pad. A very forgiving, easy to extract performance from, SUP.

Maybe your weight makes the results different than mine?

I've ridden both and found the same thing. The Subvector rides well on the tail and in the pocket, but not so much elsewhere. I felt like it had too much entry rocker an pushed water a bit.
The Mana is a much better all-around performer. The accelerated tail rocker is key. I'm 180lbs an found it plenty stable. The Mana 9'0" is my favorite surf style board.

I am about 180+ naked but always surf in the wetsuit.

Mana 9' is my favorite board by far. I feel most natural on it, both stability wise and surfing wise. In fact when I bought it 2 years ago and stepped on it from 9'8" Starboard I didn't loose nothing in stability but gained instantly in surfing performance.

Naish 7'8" is tippy! but then again I dont think it is a board that is tippy; rather my balance has limitations... unfortunately :(
