I remember when Rodney Sumpter surfed the Severn Bore in the early seventies (60's?)
He was the only one on the wave (maybe another person with him???)
It was bigger as I remember, and he got some good rides.

The size varrys a lot depending on where you are on the river how much water in it and what the sandbanks are doing it can varry from thy to head high on the same day. It's a huge amount of fun and every one is out for a good time it's a amazing atmosphe, its busy but think it would be boring if you were on your own, ive had it to myself at night then its plain scarey!would LOVE to ride the one in china may have organise it !!!

you get one per tide and its worked out on a 9 year cycle, it happens on the big spring tides on rivers were you have wide river mouths that narrow fast causing the surge.
