2012 Naish Glide 14 or 17 for SoCal All-A-Rounder

Upwind, downwind and occasional channel crossings (Catalina) ... which do you think is best, 2012 Naish Glide 14 or 17? TIA.

longer is usually faster, more waves, etc.

I think you will find the 17' Glide better in all of the above.. plus the added bonus of having a rudder which may help heaps in a channel crossing if you get a side wind.
