« on: January 17, 2012, 04:59:33 AM »
Check out this new Naish board that has just arived in Oz..  ???

It's not even in their 2012 brochure.. It's a completely new 10'6" that's 29 3/4" wide.. New rail shape.. New rocker.. New tail and new deck shape.

Maybe it's a Dave Kalama "Gold Watch" model.

Maybe it's the board that convinced Dave to walk away?  ???

Though more likely that would be the 12'6" race boards.  ;D

2012 model 10'6.5".  The old 10'6" seems to be gone and the full specs are up on Naish.

No..  ;D

I have friends that have bought the 9'5" Mana as first board because the 10' Mana is too big for a smaller person.. but this board would be a great choice.. The old 10'6" was pretty tippy for new guys.. and gals..  :D

Re-shaped 10'6", looks like a better board. the old 10'6" was absurdly tippy.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

For new riders I'm sure this is an improvement. But having recently looked through the Naish catalog, I appreciated the fact that they still had a board like this in their lineup. I'm surfing much shorter boards lately but like the idea of adding a longer, narrower board to the quiver. Good for exploring the coast and still looking for surf. That narrower width should help surfability. My 7'8 doesn't like to travel very far. I think PSH got rid of this type of board from their lineup as well. Who does that leave? Pearson-Laird?

Those dims are real close to the Starboard Drive @ 10'5" x 30" x 4". Very popular and successful design that's been around for a while.

My wife loves hers!  ;D

Is there something strange with the 2012 12'6" Race boards? I bought my wife and son a Catalina to share and I have a Surftech Bark Competitor. What I noticed was that the build quality seems to be better on the Naish. True or not I don't know for real but that got me thinking of maybe buying a Javelin 12'6" for myself but I'm not sure about the shape of it.

Anyone know anything there?

I don't know what you meen with strange, but I have a 2012 14' glide carbon and it is a gerat allround DW flatwaterboard and the quality is absolutely top notch. If you go to skåne give me a call and you can try it out. the new shape on the javelin 12'6 is way better then the catalina it had a realy narrow sweetspot.

I'm not that good with the language. What I meant was that it looks as the Javelin 12'6 has got some rocker and maybe it is not for flatwater, more like a BOP board. In my part of Sweden,  Färjestaden and Haga Park which I think you've visited a couple of times?, there aren't really any waves. Just flatwater and very choppy small waves.
Thank you so much for the invite to Skåne!!!! If I'll go down there, I'll give you a call for sure!!!

Love that rounded pin tail, and it doesn't look too thick.  Sweet.

One thing that strikes me as odd while reviewing the specs on this this board is the volume: 231L! That is quite a bit for a 30" wide board that is only 4" thick, and the same as listed for the Nalu 11'6", which is 5.5" thick...?

By comparison, the 11'4" Nalu is longer, same width, and 1/2" thicker, but is listed as 180L. The new 10'10" is wider by 2", a bit thicker (3/8") and listed at 201L. I know you have have/add volume anywhere on a board, but looking at the pics above, it doesn't appear as too thick in the nose or tail.  Just wondering.....
Pete.
