PSH 11' wide or Naish Nalu 10'10"
« on: December 17, 2011, 11:43:01 AM »
Ok, here's the deal.  Looking to add another board to the quiver, but having a hard time with the decision.  I've narrowed it down, but the options are keeping me from making a solid decision.  The Naish is about $500.00 more than the PSH, plus it has a bit less of a surf shape to it.  I'm getting the NSP coco mat in 10'2", so I was thinking the PSH with a narrower nose and such.  So, what say the members of the zone?  how should I solve this one?

What will it be used for?.. I paddle the 10'10" Nalu every now and then and it's such a great board but mostly as a good flat water board (but still works fine in small waves) and I think the PSH is going to work better in the waves and not as good on flat water.. The 10'10" will also be better than the 10'2" NSP on flat water IMO.

Looking for mostly waves, as the NSP was to be the flat water/small surf board.  Maybe I'll forgo the NSP, as I haven't put down the money yet, and go with the Naish and PSH.  Thanks so far, and keep them coming.

This vid shows how the 10'10" paddles flat water.. Not sure if you saw it when I first posted it.

You can feel and even hear the air running along the bottom channels.

I had forgotten about hose bottom channels on it.  the board looks like it's pretty fast for the style in the video.  This is why I figured I'd ask questions. ;D

Not to contadict our buddy from down under but the naish Nalu 10'10"rides waves great (I find Naish under estimates the wave ridding of their boards and I do not know why) Now I'm not talking about hollow waves or huge hawiian reef breaks.

But waves like you find in your picture (Sign at Swami's) From Cardif reef up through Pipes to Swami's I would pick the  Naish. I think the Channels actually feel looser than a flat bottom board. The Drawback to the Naish is the take off it has a flat rocker so late takeoffs can be bad. However the flatter rocker can get you into the waves earlier.

the PSH is a nice board a bit heavier (by feel) and it is better rail to rail. So when you can "Drive" it it goes faster but if you are gliding it seems slower

if you have any other questions feel free to PM me

Hey DJ, Can you tell us how the 10'10" compares with other Naishs your familiar with as far as tracking, glide and speed on the flatwater?  I'm speaking of the Glide 12, Nalu 11'6" and the Nalu 11'4".  Thanks.

I've owned the 12' Glide and 11'6" and 11'4" Nalu's and the new 10'10" Nalu is not only the most stable out of the four.. and also has the best flat water speed and glide (the 12' Glide comes close).. and it also tracks the best.. It's an amazing board.. You need to stand forward enough on the new 10'10" so the tail is just starting to lift and the nose sits very low compared to the other three boards.. I've seen a few people paddling it and been a bit too far back.

Thanks DJ.  From the few videos I've seen, the 10'10" looks like it just glides and it's probably perfect for the bay paddling I do.  I was also looking at the new 12'6" Glide, but with storage an issue and the high volume, it is probably not the right choice.  It looks so sweet though.  I want that 10'6.5" too.  I'm convinced, now I just have to find one.

Can only comment on the PSH board.  Yes it's a heavy one to get to the water but once there its a great all around board.  Flat water is ok as the liters compensate a bit for the rocker.  For the surf it's real loose for it's size.  Stable in chop and from micro waves to big Sunset like peaks, it does it all.  Hop back onto the rail over the fins, paddle stuck into the face and it even tube rides.  Good luck.
