Beginner basics

Hello,

I surf, but waves/swell in Perth is indescribably bad.  That's why I'm going for SUP and I need some help in finding out the right board for me without having to go to a store for some sales persons biased opinion.  I'm looking for a board that'll serve me mostly for waves , but still have to option for a little bit of flat water paddling.  I'm also looking for something under $1800.  My initial idea was the Starboard Extremist, but hey, that's why I'm asking - I don't really have any idea other than what the Starboard site can give me.

What do you have available in your area? All boards work great to some degree, the rest is personal preference.

What board is right for you depends a lot on your weight...How heavy are you?

Your mileage will vary......I know the extremist wouln't be a flatwater board for me...

Take a look at the showcase... http://www.kenalu.com/showcase-index/ 46 total boards reviewed of which I would call perhaps a dozen beginner boards. Each board had at least 5 evaluators and their comments indicate size and skill level.
