How do you embed video on the forum?

How do you embed videos in posts so that they don't show up simply as URL links?  I did a search of the forum, couldn't find any guidance, same with the FAQ, and I don't see any icons in the "Start New Topic" menu that look like they will do the trick (the way the [img] tags work).  I have also tried the embed codes provided by YouTube and they didn't work for me either.

It seems like the cool kids know the secret of how to embed their videos... I would like to be like the cool kids.

Give Admin more time. I think he crashed the site trying to revise the site to accept embedding. Back when this site was born, it did allow embedding, but so many people didn't know what that was, Admin made changes to allow simple posting of the link to make it embed automatically. But today it's a non Flash world and he tried to move the site into the future......I think

Yeah I saw my latest vid in the fall report, go from non embeded to embeded and finally back to just the link again.  I've always been amazed how it all happens.  Admin does a great job keeping up with the latest.

I was poking around some threads trying to figure it out late Monday night PT (right before the site went down - mine was the second to last post before that happened) and saw that some videos were embedded, while some were URL links (including some embedded and some non-embedded in the same thread) and figured there must be some trick to it.

At any rate, thanks for all the hard work Admin.  I must admit, when the site was down yesterday, I had severe withdrawal symptoms.  It wasn't pretty.

So I have unsuccessfully been trying to embed videos, and I'm wondering what the rule/secret is?

I have tried youtube, vimeo, facebook, url, no url, video id, iframe, bbc codes, and most the time the result is an active link to the video but no embedded video...wondering if maybe my account doesn't have permission to embed?

I appreciate it if anyone can enlighten me on what is required to embed a video?

From YouTube, use just the https at the page title on the browser, I don't use any of the links from the page, just the title at the top of the browser.

Ah I see now, I was hitting the preview button and the preview would just show a link with no embedded video.  But posting does work and the preview button displays inaccurately.  Thanks!

Facebook videos don't work anywhere, they aren't true links, they use Facebook's internal viewer which includes some timeline tricks. I haven't found a workaround.

Thanks!  I guess being a social network they need to limit off network sharing.
