good stuff Robert!
I admit to being a bit of a nervous Nellie when i drive-have a pickup and use bungees to hold my shorter sup down-dont have to drive real far but im constantly looking in the rear view to make sure the board has not become someones hood ornament-dont have a car to strap a board to but if i do im using your method.

works good if you got a small vehicle like that. Truck with thule racks... probably take longer. I use two straps per board, and take my time donig it. But Cool vid though.

The youtube video on how to strap your board in 30 seconds has been watched over 6000 times already, so we made another video on how to strap multiple boards to a smaller car, let me know what you think:

The mulitboard rack video would be a liuttle bit better if you were wearing a clown nose and clown feet  :).....then pile 30 groms in

Actually, I thank you for the 30 sec vid....I just sent it to two folks who always seem to hesitate for a sesh as "I get nervous about the straps"

My solution is of course a van.....but thanks!
Too many for the rack
Some in the shack
Some under decks
Some have straps

Taller than most, shorter than others.

Surfneils, don't mind at all, please share any of my stuff.  How can we find your blog?

Giant, the 30 second video is the first one at the beginning of the thread, not the multiple board video.

more and more guys over here are using these puppies....www.lockrack.co.za - they work really well and board actually gets secured even before you stick outside arm on - so it holds board in place when windy.

Most of our rental boards have marks from straps vibrating on the boards.  Not only is the noise annoying but it also damages the finish of the board and it's easy to prevent.

So here is a tip that was mentioned before:
When strapping boards to your car, twist the straps like in the pictures, this keeps them from vibrating and scratching the finish.

Bob thanks for that advice about twisting the straps, for the life of me I couldn't figure out how my board was ending up with those strap marks.... now I know !!

Well another way to avoid strap rash is to hold the buckle in the desired place with one hand as you tighten with the other.  This way the strap doesn't slide and 'burn' the paint job.

But all this stuff about buckles being unreliable is true.  Oxidation in any form can corrode the springs that bring the tightening lever back to a friction being position.  I just noticed one of mine go south.

PBill has cleats riveted  onto his red Jeep so there's not even a need to know any elaborate knots.  He uses expensive mountain climbing rope that gives me confidence.    Going up Hana Hwy at 50mph into even as low as a 20 mph headwind, means 70 mph total on your load.

We made another video on how to strap a board to a car that has no roof racks using two foam pads and two straps.

Thanks for the tip! Do you still strap it like that even if you will be blasting down the freeway?

I recently watched someone take 10 minutes to strap their board to their car while I was waiting for their parking spot.  He was going back and forth several times for each strap, looping it around the ends of the racks on both sides, and tying the straps off endlessly.  In the end the board was not even tight on the racks and the board could still slide all over because he tied it around the end of the rack, not snug next to the board and could not really tighten it well because of all the loops he made around the rack.  So, here is a video of a fast way to strap a board to a car easily, quickly and safely.  I made a short "ADD" version:
Pluto Platter: 7-10 x 29.25 x 4.25 x 114.5 liters
