Anybody sail the 8'10" Starboard Widepoint???
« on: July 21, 2011, 06:10:30 AM »
Looking for feedback on how this board works in the surf with a sail (5.5-5.8) in lighter winds (less that what you'd use these same sails on an 85 L windsurfer - 8-12 or so).

I didn't know that board had a mast insert. Does it also have inserts for straps?

The "Silver" trim model has both (footstraps and mast foot) from my understanding.

Correct. You can check it in this photo from Surfing Sports.

I have not sailed it but, it surfs great. It's super stable, loose turns and loves shoulder+ sessions.

I just wish SB would put the mast track on
the carbon models. I have the Gun and the construction is amazing. It's a sin I cant throw a sail on it. If they'd take away some thickness on the wide point and put full on surf rails on them I'd buy it tomorrow. ;)

I have one.  Really fun to sail in the waves - I can't see it being a good flatwater board.  I'm still adjusting to surfing it - I've found it very stable side to side, but I seem to fall off the back a lot when paddling into waves, which I'm guessing is the shorter length and the additional rocker compared to my Element.  Fun board - I'd definitely recommend it.
