i would still do a leak test and tape/repair any possible leak area.  As i have post in the past, i was cleaning the pad residue with goo off and the fume ate a good chunk of foam under the veneer where there was a hairline crack.  I would do test on a scrape eps foam/cup on all solvent before using it. wipe it on and leave it for a day or wipe it on and cover it with plastic and leave it out in the sun for a day and see if it does anything.  this only applies to eps only board, sandwich constructiion have better protection from most solvent. the PVC sandwich foam doesnt doesnt react to much solvent.

Question: if the deck pad itself is off and only the glue remains is this the best approach?
What tool  works best to scrape the glue off?

Do i need to worry about the rail tape ? Or how to protect it without removing it first?

Perfect timing for this thread - quick poll:

1. Rip the whole deck pad off and wax? I'm used to wax, the pros and cons on my other board
2. Rip off just enough to get a new stomp pad on?

so i went for minimal pads there on my ST.

I pick #2 - cut/scrape off what you need to get the new kick pad to fit, and then contact cement anything else that might be loose elsewhere. EZ-PZ.

OK thanks for those who pointed out the soaked towel with Mineral spirits trick.
It does not need to be over night in my case (1 hour was just right) but i had already removed the deck pad and was only dealing with the 3m tape/glue.

First i covered my rail tape with saran wrap to protect it.
I didnt use a towel but a sheet. I poured mineral spirits (not turpentine) on it and then I then covered it with a plastic garbage bag.

one hour later i was able to scrape it off with a plastich scraper and some elbow grease on a soaked rag.

Washed it all up with rubbing alcohol.

one thing i will say: the areas where i had reglued the deck pad over the past year with 3m spray glue were a B#$ch to remove.

Next time i will pay someone to do this: Robert: what do you charge to do this?
