I'm in the Newcastle area on the east coast of Australia 100miles north of Sydney. There are 6 Stand up paddle surfers I know of, 3 on JL11s 1 Laird 1 Mickey Monoz & 1 on an old windsurfer. Surfings pretty conservative in this area so we are considered a bit of an oditty at this time, maybe a step up from goat boats, so it will be interesting to see how long it takes to really take hold.
Cheers.
PS I just love it and dont really care.

We're nudging up over 150 down here in Australia. Judging by the backlog of orders with some of the shapers/suppliers  it will be over 300 by Xmas.

Its a happening thing down here.

Stand Up Paddle Surfers are growing exponentially! It's awesome to see the sport sweep the globe. As of today, www.supsurfmag.com is getting hits from 59 countries around the world.

Perhaps we should do a count by how many boards were sold. I wonder if shapers be willing to disclose such numbers? If not, is there a way for them to reveal their sales in quantity without identification?

Its more work than that since we would have to break down the numbers into countries, regions, etc...

I am one of the two that SUP in the Albany bulb (San Francisco bay area). One of these days, we'll SUP to the Golden Gate bridge from Berkeley / Albany.

Using serial numbers, I think Jimmy Lewis has sold 3500 SUPs up to now.

I live on the coast of far North Queensland (Australia) 50 km north of Townsville. Not much quality surf up here due to the Great Barrier Reef. SUPS is great for the wind generated waves we get. I havn't seen any other SUP surfers yet but it is still early days in Oz

In Tofino I usually just do regular surfing and I haven't seen anyone there stand up paddling, but I did notice a request on my favourite surf report web site asking people who "insist" on SUPing to not crowd the lineup and block everyone else's view. Ouch. Anyway, I guess there are people there doing it.

princess, and what is your favourite web-site link? could you post it here.

I logged about 35 days this summer there. I saw one guy once. I personally had not a single issue. but i never go into the lineup. I do it alone. I wouldn't enjoy doing it close to others.

Bit late, but better late then never.

Started this year as one of the first in the Netherland, must be (max) 15 by now.

This thread will be a part of history.   When its thousands in each area we'll all look back at this and say, "Remember when?"
