About 10 minutes' walk. Less in the car  ;)
In theory, there should be no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is...

2 miles to my favorite lake put-in. 7 minutes from driveway to first paddle stroke.  Love it.

my suspicions were correct, a lot of you are "waterfront rich" haha. This sport is expensive.

But anyway, 8 miles from the beach, takes less than 20 minutes all summer with no parking problems. Winter through spring break it takes 45 minutes minimum and sometimes just as long to park.

When I am staying in Georgia I am about a mile from the Chattahoochee River. Then the big lake is within a 30 min drive with a bunch of smaller ponds scattered around.

When I am down in Florida its just a short walk down to gulf from the house.

Close to the water (5 minutes from Puget Sound) but far from the surf...such is the life of a Seattle SUPer.  Just made the trek to Westport yesterday...hard to get the hang of surfing when you only do it a few times a year.  I've gotten a few freighter waves on the Sound but it's a matter of being in the right place at the right time.

You need a scooter with a board rack. Parking problems GONE!

I live in a coastal community and have surf spots in all directions except east.  Main break takes less than 5 minutes to get to and a look out my door tells me if it is time to go surfing.

At this moment, I'm living a couple hundred feet from where I can drop into the Hood River and paddle into the Columbia :D A little concerned about how far away the surf is .... :/

Seems like I was Headmount's neighbor this winter  - walking  distance to Charley's!

About 2 miles from the nearest lake which equates to 40 minutes from the moment I say to myself, "Self, today I paddle", to the first paddle stroke.

40 minutes includes loading the truck up with the checklist, slathering up the sunscreen, careening through traffic, pumping up the ULI (no space to keep it inflated 24/7), selecting a playlist, and then most importantly.....smiling, knowing that, yes indeed, today I paddle.

Must say that I love this thread.  Has truly inspired me to get to work on some next steps I've laid out for for my life that includes ocean front living in Maui as least part of every year.  Of course, I'd settle for ocean view living if that included walking distance to the beach.  To save the environment of course.

General Jack D. Ripper: Mandrake, do you recall what Clemenceau once said about war?

Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: No, I don't think I do, sir, no.

General Jack D. Ripper: He said war was too important to be left to the generals. When he said that, 50 years ago, he might have been right. But today, war is too important to be left to politicians. They have neither the time, the training, nor the inclination for strategic thought. I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

Alas, not "waterfront rich," ... "waterfront (behind one street) rich..."  Yes, this sport is expensive.

15 seconds on the imaginary zip line... a few minutes walking with a board and paddle... 31 seconds on the mountain bike down (two minutes back)... I am very, very fortunate and don't take it for granted a second.

About 35 minutes from the North County command center (Yorba Linda)... the house near the office that serves as the super heavy work week crash pad... and is used WAY more often than I wouldl like... (like almost every week)... but some great mountain bike trails (and a nice golf course) in / out of the back yard there.

You can ask the dudes at Creek, they will affirm... just a bunch of rich kooks!  ;)

I'm a thirty-second walk off my deck through the park to the river's edge (one minute to the better path down the bank).  Also a one-minute walk the other direction to Gorge Performance (gorgebob, you owe me 14 cents again).  The houses that appear in his photo above along the river had water in them almost up to their second floors in the 1996 flood.  My house is further back in the photo but was almost waterfront then.

In fact the whole neighborhood was created in 1894 when several houseboats broke loose upriver, and were hauled ashore here.  Eventually property lines were drawn in between them, and people jacked them up and added stories below them.  I'm thinking of replacing my current house with an ark.
