How far are you from the water?
« on: June 09, 2011, 06:46:20 PM »
Just out of curiosity, how far are you from the water? I live in Baltimore and it takes about 25 minutes to get to the closest spot. When I go to the beach, different story. I can surf out front or head down south ten minutes for a much better break.

About 15 minutes to the river.
About 30 minutes to about 4 different lakes.
Surf is either 20 minutes - when I rent the wave pool - or a plane flight for at least 2 hours.
Easy Rider is the name of my store in Edmonton, AB, Canada.
My name is Warren Currie . . . and we SUP Surf indoors . . . in a shopping mall!

5 miles from the Lake Michigan shoreline and a decent beach break in the right winds.  Three other pier breaks from another 10-30 minutes away.  Three rivers within 30 minutes drive.  A few inland lakes as well.  I feel I got it pretty good.  If I only have an hour of free time I know I can paddle 45 minutes of that.

150'.
If you are not living on the edge; you are taking up too much room!

10 minutes to the main river, and 15-20 minutes to the lake. Also a smaller river and some man made channels branching off the main river about 5-10 minutes.

I'm super, super lucky to live where I do and I never take It for granted. I take advantage of my location on a daily basis year round. I'm literally 12' to the water !I live on a body of water that is just behind a barrier beach . There is a cut that gets open periodically by army corp to keep the water level and the salinity in check . IMO it really is an amazing place ! The inside bay is a great flat-choppy water training ground and paddling due 1/2 mile south brings you to the cut ( a nice break when it works) and open ocean swell . Only downside is if they slack on openings and we get a lot of rain you've  got to put everything on blocks and head for the hills.

8 miles to Plymouth Harbor...10 to the launch point for the CCBC at Long Beach, 1/2 hour north to good surf for NE and E, 1+ hour to the outer Cape surf, NE, E, and SE (fun small waves there today), 1 hour to Newport RI when its from the S. I check the cams and buoys and go where the swell is coming in. We've been talking lately about moving. Looking for something within walking distance of the harbor.

Gotta say I'm pretty lucky.  I walk to the end of my driveway; turn my head to the left and I see the Atlantic... turn my head to the right and I see the Intracoastal Waterway.

If I tie the board to my bike i'm about a ten minute bike ride to one of the most consistant breaks on the east coast pre-dawn before most get to it.  Good to write this every once and while to appreciate how good it really is.

About 1/2 block to a great uncrowded wave on the North Shore of Oahu, 7 Miles to Sunset and Pipeline.  I absolutely SUP in the surf and have way more fun than when I crawl. Just my opinion though.  ;) ;D

In Hood River, about half a mile. In Maui I have a 180 degree view of the ocean, but I'm 3 miles from Maliko, 4 from Ho'okipa, 15 from Kanaha.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Very fortunate that I live on a water skiing lake that is great for stand up paddling. 7 miles all the way around the lake is a scenic workout. K-15 Starboard sits right on the dock and I just need to carry my paddle 40' down my backyard to jump on my dock and paddle away or take the boat for a hydrofoil or wakeboard run. Would love to be near the beach to do some SUP surfing, but flat water is too convenient. Planning to get a smaller SUP for my wife and son to paddle soon.

I'm in LA, it's not how far, it's "how long". ;)

At 6:30am, I'm 30 minutes away from surf, at 8am, I'm an hour and a half from surf. On Saturday afternoon in Summer? I might as well be in Kansas.

I did find a new flatwater training spot in the Valley recently. It's .28 miles around it and I do some laps when I can't sneak to the ocean & 10 minutes away.
