Recommendations for 3-piece travel paddle?
« on: June 03, 2011, 08:51:54 AM »
Hi Everyone,

I'm looking to buy two 3-piece travel  paddles to use/transport w/Uli Boards.  Seems the Werner Nitro CF is a top choice, but I'll be paddling with kids, close to shore, exploring/touring, probably hitting and pushing off of rocks occasionally, etc.  Will Werner's "bomber durability" hold up to that? Primary use in So Cal and SW Florida.  Any recommendations? Thanks in advance for any advice offered!

I love my 3pc werner for travel.  I don't think there is another viable option out there.

I bought my fuse as a 3 piece adjustable...in my truck always, as backup in case I need it for surf, my go to for distance and downwind, and will travel with me so I know I'll have quality paddle for sure. I actually fell in a foot of water on a cobble beach last week and hit the rocks all along the length of the shaft....thought for sure it was going to have damage but was pleasantly surprised it was fine. Don't think banging it on rocks regularly would be good though. PM River and see what he thinks.

I am also looking for a quality 3 piece adjustable paddle. I have an inflatable 12'6 touring/racing board and need to complete it with a paddle which can fit into the car.
Is Werner 3 piece adjustable still the best alternative?
What about QB Kanaha 3 piece adjustable?
Any other brands I should consider?

Last spring while on Oahu I bought a C4 inflatable 12'6.  They were nice enough to loan their 3 piece paddle, but we both were concerned about the loose fit.  I had used Werner's 3 piece Nitro back here on the mainland and found it to be tight.  Turned out, I found one on Oahu and bought it.  Brought it over to the guys at C4 and they were impressed with it's tight fit and feel.  Soon after returning from the island I did snap the handle off the end of the shaft.  Werner fixed it at no cost.  I have since bought their new bent shaft Grand Prix for flat water paddling and love it.  The 3 piece has comes in handy for friends to use due to it being adjustable and for me when traveling with the inflatable. I also was impressed with the folks at C4 for their honesty and its possible they have a new paddle now.

Easy Rider, have you tried the Werner 3 piece. Can you compare?
My first choice would be Werner but it looks like the new Spanish distributor is slow. I might have to choose Naish Kaholo or Quickblade 3 piece.

It looks like Naish has stopped the 3 piece Kaholo in 2013.  I can't see it in the website.
