Twisted ankles and ankle braces ...
« on: May 17, 2011, 03:56:12 PM »
Anyone here dealing with a twisted/sprained ankle?  I rolled mine two weeks ago in weak 1' surf, woke up in the middle of the night with it the size of a melon, went to the drs, got xrays, nothing broken, nothing pulled out -- or so they say -- just a sprain.  but it still hurts a good bit.  and we're having surf.  and i'm in all kinds of ankle and wave-deprived agony.

anything i can do?  is there any kind of brace that'll lace me up tight so i can go out?

thanks!

Yeah, what you want is the kind of ankle brace made to go inside a shoe--mine is a blue plastic thing that goes under my instep and curls up around my ankle, held in place with wide velcro belts. You put it on and then pull a bootie on over it. Works like a champ. The way things are going I'm going to take twenty minutes to dress for surfing and I'll look like a linebacker or a roller derby skater.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

thanks, bill.  i'll have to get me one of those braces.  do you think it's rigid enough to really keep your ankle from rolling?  i'm chomping at the bit to get back in the water ...

Hey Linter,

You may be able to speed up the healing process using French Green Clay as a poultice, it seems to be helping me with my tendonitis and was highly recommended by several surfers here in France as the best treatment for tendonitis.
here's some info: http://www.rawdetox.org/modalities/clay-packs.html
the brand I use is called Argiletz.

Get well soon!

It's thin plastic, but the design puts the plastic into compound curves which make it pretty rigid. I'm sure there's a point where it wouldn't support you sufficiently, in other words I might not trust it for motocross, but for SUP I trust it. I lloked at mine last night looking for a brand name, but couldn't find any.

thanks, bill.  i think i just got what you have, kind of a stirrup affair.  went out in small stuff with it on and didn't feel any pain.  or maybe that was the cocktails i had before going in.  ha ha.  just kidding!  kidding!  haven't done that since i was 16!  (and even then it was only  Romilar!)
