New Huki sup?
« on: April 23, 2011, 04:13:58 PM »
Check out this link...
http://www.huki.com/index.php?page=SUP_14_All_Conditions

I ran into a friend of mine who was on the way back from Huki with a used surf ski.
He said that they might have something new in the works for SUP...
but he didn't get any details b/c his business of the day was to get his ski.
so i have been keeping an eye on this site to see what might be up.
looks very nice, and seems to be hollow const too

Looks to be a significant design improvement over last years... should make them a bit more stable...

And no one's gonna steal a board that color (-:

I agree that the mustard yellow will be a hot seller.

I have one of Jude's (owner of Huki) 14' prototypes, it is a great board aND IT IS VERY STABLE.

It is great in open ocean or flat water .

It is light ......26lbs...for a 14' that is not carbon.

SUPs are newer  for Huki ...but certainly he is well respected and innovator in the OC1&2, surfski business .... I am excited to get my hands on the new Huki sup.

Jude sends a lot of product to Vancouver B.C. via a guy here in Bellingham.  However, I was at a weeknight race in Canada last year and there was a gal who just got one.  She let me paddle it for about 20 minutes.  Now, I never said it was unstable... simply that my guess would be that with a lowered cockpit, the new design would be more stable. Few builders can compete with Jude when it comes to design construction and graphics.

Yellow Not a hot seller??

I see a lot of Barks and they seem to be a bit on the yellow side?

I personally like a yellow board.

Sweet looking board. Hope some come up my way and i can get on the water to try it.

And Barks yellow is WAY different than that dark mustard color.

One thing that painfully jumps out at me is the sharp edge on the perimeter of the foot well. I fell on a top rail just like that in some nasty chop and tore the costal cartilage between my ribs. Mark Johnson the shaper for Hobie said that was happening a lot actually on his early designs, so he started rounding them more on his newer boards. Aside from that, I can't wait to try one. I had talked to Jude a number of times about this board, and he said the unlimited is in the works. That's what I'm talk'n about! And what's not to love about that color? What ever it is...
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Huli has also added a flatwater model to the site, and i've also sent in a question asking about an UL version, hope to test them soon
