I would like to get advices in my first sup. I live in Miami FL. I am 5.6 145 pounds and looking for a board I can use in flat water and catch some waves. Also some times to take my seven years old girl, I am thinking  to get a naish nalu 11.6. any advice will get me a lot.

tautologies

On that board you'll be easily able to take your kid. We were two grown up on the board, no problem (I was over 200 at the time).

I would consider the mana series too. It is wider, and a little more updated shape IMO. You could probably get away with the 9'5'', but definitely the 10. They are a little wider so it easier to balance with someone else on the board.

I have seen they used to have the 11'6 nalu with a window in it...that would be killer for your kid tho. :-)

Where are you going to paddle most of the time?

If its flatwater most of the time and maybe a trip to the waves, then get a FLATWATER board - get the board that you'll enjoy 90% of the time, and rent the rest of the time. Otherwise you're getting a compromise that is "kinda ok but not great" for most of the time (read: reduced enjoyment) for a pipe dream of maybe surfing from time to time.

If however you really WILL surf, and often enough to accept the MASSIVE compromise of a "do it all" shape, then look at those options... knowing that it'll neither rock on flatwater nor the waves... but do both OK. thats the price you pay for a master of none, jack of all trades design.

Answer that to yourself truthfully first.

With that knowledge, start looking for specific designs.
