Garmin Forerunner 910 XT
« on: January 16, 2014, 09:32:12 AM »
For those that aren't familiar with this product:  It allows up to 4 display windows.  I have mine set to 3 windows.  They are overall time, distance and average lap speed.  Every time you change direction, it starts a new lap.  At least in theory.
For others with a similar product, what do you have displayed?

I just have the Runtastic app on my Iphone. 5 bucks and does everything I need including plotting where you've paddled via the GPS on your phone. The lady talks to you every 30 seconds with speed, distance, etc. Graphs, reports, all history.
I would imagine the Garmin is much better but this a cool deal.

Yes.  I've used MotionX GPS, it was similar to Runtastic, I think.
The Garmin was a gift from my very supportive wife.
The Garmin Forerunner can have up to four items displayed.  But, when you get back to your computer and download the recorded information, it shows:  distanced paddled, time, moving time, elapsed time, average sped, average moving speed, max speed, course on a map, and weather at the time.
There is a player (their term) that shows the course and speed as you paddled.   It is interesting to see the effects of tide and wind.
It is programmed to show elevation gain or loss, also.  But, with paddling, it really seems to mess up the sensor.  I just know we don't have 70 foot tides in Newport.

On my 910XT, I have 3 windows in paddling mode. The big window has current speed, the other two has total time and distance. In swim mode I have time, average pace, distance.

Have you tried counting the paddle strokes on your 910? Curious how accurate it is.

Currently it seems that the stoke rate isn't accurate for paddle sports.
I haven't tried it, tho.
