W.O.W.
« on: March 21, 2011, 06:44:46 AM »
Hey , beyond my daily workout schedule ,there are a few of us on eastern L.I. who follow and develop our own version of W.O.W (workout of the week). Yesterday was a good one , here's how it went . Starts with 45min of stretching and yoga warm up. Then an 8 mile mtn bike ride through sandy, hilly terrain to the beach where we begin a 4 mile barefoot run. 2 forwards and 2 backwards. Then a 10,000 meter open ocean row(thanks jill and mike for moving our gear around!) to our sub's where we paddle 10,000 meters back to our bikes and 8 miles back to my shop where cool down and  celebrate  with a Guinness  and a killer bbq (thanks Marcus). We all had a super fun and challenging day ! Now to plan next weeks W.O.W. Later.

Hey Starman, thanks for the reply. That OCR looks hardcore ! Are you participating ? If so are you solo or team ? If team do you need another member? I am in NY and most of my friends (team) are scattered on the east coast . None of us have major sponsors, just local shops.  Our next event is the www.rev3adventure.com. And if all goes as planned the www.wildernesstraverse.com.  Thanks again , later .

I figure to rope in a couple of buddies to do the run and bike legs while I wait at the finish line drinking all the beer.
The paddle will be fairly easy as long as the wind cooperates. The run sounds brutal and the bike leg looks the most fun as it is described as lots of downhill. But I'd have to check out the 9 mile uphill section. What they describe as gradual is open to one's interpretation of "gradual".
Anyway, you're very welcome to make the trip. I'm pretty sure I could dig up a race board for you to use. You would just need shoes and a good mountain bike. And of course 2 crazy buddies if you didn't plan on doing it solo.
I'm still wondering how to work the support for the runner and biker. Any big crash or mechanical breakdown 25 miles into the ride may be interesting to deal with to say the least.
