kind of bummed
« on: March 14, 2011, 06:59:12 AM »
Got some nice boards for the VIP rental fleet and I am having problems with the Starboard brushed carbon non skid....slipping like crazy!
Getting back on the board after a wave..forget about it,surfing it is a joke(for me)& other people are getting carpet burns on thier knees too,is anyone else having problems?
I'm about to take my sander to them and grind it off & stick on some regular non skid, man these things are brand new!! damm.

How could they sell  something like that! Boards ride great otherwise & man are they light.

I feel you Shawn.  I've only been on a couple boards with the non-deckpad grip stuff and I hate it.  My knees got tore up and the top of my toes.

I think Warren or Wardog said you can stick deckpad right over it.  I'm sure you'll hear from one of them in the know.

The guys at Starboard said you can stick a pad right over the star touch since the star touch is molded into the board. You could wax it like a regular surfboard at $1.50 a bar however might be cheaper to pad it.

Pads really stick to the carbons...

ya i dont really like the star touch either a good pad seems to always work best i just put it right over the star touch as well no probs at all.  plus the pad seems better for long sessions or long paddles more comfortable.

I have been riding a 7'11 carbon a couple of times now and it only has a tailpad on it.  I am not having any problems.  have used with both booties and bare feet and neither problems anyway.  I do agree it takes some getting used to compared to a pad but kind of like going without it.
