I've also ordered a Surftech Bark Dominator 14' for use here in Central BC (Quesnel) and around Vancouver.  I'm also around 190 lbs (but working on getting to 180) so I'm glad to hear it works well for a guy of my weight.  The ice doesn't come off the lakes here until the end of April, but I make frequent trips to Vancouver so I'll probably try it out there first.  Meanwhile the cross-country skiing here is great and superb cross-training for paddleboarding.  I just began SUP this summer.  I paddled 4-5 times per week until ice finally covered the local lake on November 15th, but 4 days later I was skiing on our cross-country trails 10 km away.  I noticed that the improved balance and better core strength from SUPing immediately benefited my skiing.  I'll be doing the 50 km Cariboo Marathon x-c ski race tomorrow.   With all the snow this year I hope to ski until the end of April or early May and then transition to SUPing the day after the ice leaves the lake.  I'm a lucky guy to be able to do all the things I love within minutes of my house.   So far I'm the one and only guy SUPing in my neck of the woods, but I've generated a lot of interest and I'm hopeful an active SUP community will develop here.

This is a great forum and I enjoy the enthusiatic and knowledgable discussion.

I have a Lahui Kai 12 6 for very flat water (super tippy), C4 Vortice for downwinding and a Surftech Coastal Runner 14 for titanic runs (super stable).  Hoping the Bark will be my primary board for flat water/downwinding/chop/racing, etc.....

Great Dane - the flex concerns me.  I am 185 lbs.

I will also be getting a new Werner Fuse paddle.
Dude, Nice quiver!

Thanks Lee - I have a couple more (NSPs) for newbies and guests.  It is always fun to go out on a flotilla of SUPs.

Today I had a chance to paddle the surftech dominator it felt really smooth and fast. Great glide, We were testing it side by side with my current naish 14 ft glide. Both of us agreed the dominator was faster. I am 165 and felt very comfortable on the board

I found a pretty cool interview from Joe Himself.

Surftech's new Joe Bark 14' Dominator

I've demoed a Dominator, and was stoked for one on how light it was, and secondly, how BLAZING fast it was. I like how low the nose sits in the water, will even cut down into the surface, rather than bouncing above it. I thought they looked killer with the black bottom like in this clip, but now they are doing  the same orange flames similar to the top. Probably due to heat issues.

Surftech has all the dims on their site, Tecpartner: http://surftechsup.com/boards/bark-14-dominator/

Just got my new dominator last night.  What a great looking board.  Went out this afternoon for a very brief run into the wind.  Very cold today so I could not stay out long (wind chill was a b%&$#).  Going into the wind, it handle the incoming waves great.  The short distance of going DW was very impressive.  I will post more when I go on a longer run.

Been on the new Dominator several times now.  There have been upwind and downwind conditions only.  Seems to handle upwind well except it tends to windmill and not track as straight as I thought it would.  However, it was very fast going into the wind compared to other boards I have been on.  For downwinding, it works ok.  It catches waves easily and glides well.  I do not think it is as stable of a board as I was expecting.  I rode a 404 last summer that seemed to be much more stable.  I think I need to spend some more time on the board. Looking forward to some flat water to try out the speed of the board.

The Werner Fuse is incredible.

Today was very cold but the water was flat.  Couldn't resist trying the Dominator out on flat water.  Super impressed by the speed and glide of the board.  I am not a fast paddler but maintained a constant 5 mph for 1.5 miles.  It was very stable and fun.  For a short period of time I was able to reach the high 6's.  I did notice a little flex but it doesn't seem to be a problem at all.

Hey Bing, I've got quite a bit of time on my Dominator now... am loving it.  Not as fast as my Javelin, but so much more stable, I'll be able to use it in all conditions.  Did you get your board in Seattle?

Cheers.

Hey Great Dane - I really do like this new Bark - just need some more time on it.  I got my board through Paddleboard Specialist.  Shipping was free and it arrived unharmed.  Great packing.  Didn't know there was a Bark dealer in Seattle.

Cool Bing!  If it is the Surftech Bark, Bobby at Perfect Wave in Kirkland is a dealer.  Sounds like you got a good deal though.  There is a race in Tacoma March 20th put on by Surfriders... I'll post info as soon as I get more.

Bing - I have the Lahui Kai 12-6, how much faster/stable is the Dominator in camparison on flat water? I weigh 200lb and find the LK to be pretty stable at 250L of volume.

Hey Alexv,

I found the Dominator to be faster than the Lahui Kai and much more
stable.  Also the glide seems to be much bettter.   I only use the LK on real calm days.  Any chop makes it too much of a balancing act for me.   We may be talking about different boards since I find the LK very difficult and tiring.   Below is how I rate my boards for different conditions:

Flat Smooth Water:
Surftech Dominator - fast and incredible glide
Lahui Kai
Surftech Coastal Runner (like paddling a cruise ship)
C4 Vortice (slow in smooth water - DW all the way)

Choppy Water:
Surftech Dominator
Surftech Coastal Runner - incredibly stable
C4 Vortice
Lahui Kai - difficult to for me to balance - tires me out

Downwinding:
C4 Vortice
Surftech Dominator
Surftech Coastal Runner (only for small waves, pearls too much)
Lahui Kai - Fall off too much
