Hey Pilot,

Welcome to the board.  Drop a note before you come over.  There is a pretty active paddling community over here, and we will be happy to let you check out some smaller gear.

Best,
Randy

Randy,  Thanks I may take you up on that.  Looks like I will be out for a couple of weeks next month.  Going to be out SUP every morning before it becomes time to sail in the afternoon.  PLease let me know.

For sure.  We paddle every day and will be happy to swap with you to let you try something smaller.  When you get here, drop a PM, and we can meet up.  Also, if you are considering going with a 10 footer like the Big Green, Jimmy Lewis, or C4, all of those are available as rentals, so you may want to choose one of those as your rental, then when we swap you can get on something even smaller.

Best, Randy

We have an 8'4 and an 8'6 in the works.  The newer models should be very cool in that they will be at more normal widths (26-27.5) and thicknesses.

The only 8'6 and under boards I have seen ridden here (Maui) are the 7'0 x 30' x 5' in Ivan's video (sailboard) and this Sean Ordonez 8'3 Fish many year's back:

Rand was this board yours and is it still around?

No sir.  I only saw it once at Kuau.  Sean had it at the time.  Warren may know where it is now (the picture was his).  Actually, Cammar may have mentioned that Sean still had it (there is something in there, but...), so you may want to ask him.

This sport is evolving sooo fast. What I voted for when this board went live, is very different from how I would vote today.

Probably need a fresh poll every six months.  ;D

Thanks Randy.  Will be staying with a some friends and paddling down by sprecks and kanaha area.  Yeah probably going to stay in the 10' range as anything smaller I think for FL conditions is going to be too small.  One of the best parts about this sport is if the surf is not good where you are, you just paddle to find another.  Don't want to loose that by going too small.  Will give you a heads up when I am out.

I'm a little late to this game- Tim Stamps in Seal Beach is messing around with the small end of the board spectrum- he just did an 8'0 that he said paddles well- we're still waiting for some decent surf here in Ca so I haven't gotten any info on that end of it- he's into tinkering with all the usual variables and is going to see what the end point in board size is for us here in Ca, rumor has it you'll see a 7'6" soon just for kicks- got a photo of that 8' on my site for anybody interested.

Nice to see some more experimentation with shorter boards.  This one looks pretty wide.  Did Tim give you any other specs.  Love to know the width, nose, tail and thickness he tried.  Looks like 29.5, 22, 21, Thickness??  Time to start sharing some global notes.   :)

Thanks for linking that photo Rand- I'm kind of computer dumb with that kind of stuff. I'll look back into my notes and see what I can dig up as far as specs- I'm really curious to paddle this thing!

I'm looking for a new board and thinking about either a 10'6" CR or a 10'10" SOS (big blue).
Does anyone know if anyone in the San Diego area carries SOS's?

Any opinions on the SOS?

Hey Tom- I'm in IB and my wife has a big blue (that I ride all the time) I also have a Big Red and a custom STamps 10'er. I've got all kinds of opinions about them- see my review at this site and check out my site for more pics and info. If you want to try out the Big Red, get in touch with me through my site and we can hook up sometime- sorry can't loan out the blue, it's technically not mine- and she LOVES her board!

Thanks for the offer, I might take you up on it. I am really more interested in a board under 11' which is why I'm considering the C4 & the Big Blue. I've read your reviews and they've given me some good insight. BTW, did you get them in San Diego?
