One January Day
« on: January 20, 2011, 08:18:56 AM »
This is a short film about a rare chance for Nancy and I to surf together. I had the day off and the kids were in school, so we loaded up the 'Burb and went looking for a wave. The surf wasn't big, but the sun was shining, the crowd was small, and I was on the water sharing waves with the love of my life. It doesn't get much better than that.

holy crap thats a lot of kelp!  Looks awful.  We don't get any of that on the east coast.  What happens when your fin hits a big glob of the stuff?  Like driving with the handbrake on I bet.

@raf, on the minus tides, the kelp can really be a hassle, and it seems thicker than ever this year.  There is a term for getting thrown by it: "I got kelped!"  In the summer, most of us use a kelp fin (I have great luck with the one made by Rainbow Fins) which really helps a lot.  You do have to kind of find a little take off zone where there's room to paddle in somewhere near the peak.  It's not all bad though.  The kelp can really take the texture off the surface and give you super glassy conditions.  I also like to think it makes it a little harder for the landlord to navigate, but have no proof of that...

@newton333, yeah our blood has thinned some since our New England days.

@Linter, we'll be back next summer and I'll probably take you up on your offer.  This year we'll have to get some surfing in when we see you.

@Outcast, I usually prone with Nancy too, but my shoulder has been hurting lately on prone sessions, to say nothing of the crack in the ribs I took a few weekends ago.  Thus, I SUPed, but sat between sets.  Besides, how would I film on my longboard...

Let's make a Cape surf session happen this year (August).
