Gear Talk / Touring fin for my Sic F-14
« on: September 04, 2015, 06:28:06 PM »
I'm realling loving my F-14. I have the stock 8.3 fin and a Ninja fin for downwinding if winds are high and I need more fin.
I want a fin for long touring and island hopping on days wind is 5-10.I've been doing a lot of that lately. I've sold 3 boards since getting the F-14 and almost tempted to have a one board quiver with several fins for each activity. What got me going on this was I tried a Futures Keel fin at 6.25". Lots less effort to get the board started and speed really increased and paddling was more effortless BUT I lost a lot of stability which I want to keep for touring and sight seeing.
I'm thinking about a Gladiator fin but the Hybrid is larger than the stock Sic fin. Has anyone tried the Pro model Gladiator on the F14?? I'm afraid it might be too small as the F14 is 30" wide with a lot of volume and I'd lose my stability. Love to hear from someone about the Pro model or what they use. THANKS

SUP General / body surfing alligators

We can't win in the Carolina's this year. The shark attacks subside and the gators take over all the good surf spots!
Seven footer in Pawley's Island today.

Gear Talk / SIC F14 Wide Glide
« on: July 14, 2015, 04:27:15 PM »
I have chance to buy F14 and need opinions if it is right board for my conditions. I live at coast but have never paddled in ocean or done a downwinder. I always paddle the ICW. I live at the SOBX(Southern Outer Banks) in NC. The ICW gets white capped with the usual 10-20mph SW winds. I'm looking a 14 footer to tour ICW and maybe try some long downbreezers. I demoed the F14 but it was in an inland river on calm water. It is super stable and I liked the way it paddled. The dealer has 1 of my present boards sold and will sell my other board if I buy the F14. I guess my question is will the F14 perform well in the ICW for a tourer and downbreezer or does it need more swell(ocean) to perform and come into it's own. THANKS

Gear Talk / EZ plugs on pads
« on: April 18, 2015, 04:58:28 PM »
I have a few boards I'm gonna set up with EZ plugs. I'd like to put a couple of the plugs on the Pad itself. Anyone done this?? What adhesive would work and not affect the pad? THANKS

Gear Talk / Pau Hana ANGLER
« on: August 29, 2014, 07:11:48 PM »
Has anyone paddled the Pau Hana Angler 11x36 version? The SeaMount system and stainless threaded inserts on bottom for Noqua light system look like very thoughtful standard features. I have one of their early 2009 32" Big Easy's,just wonder how hard the 36'Angler is to paddle into the wind.

Gear Talk / Flex and Inflateables
« on: June 29, 2014, 10:16:34 AM »
Is the flex felt on inflatables mainly happening from end to end?  In other words,if all else is same:drop stitch threads per sq.inch, thickness of material, psi,WIDTH,same quality materials, etc. would a 10'6 have less flex than a 12'6.

Gear Talk / Naish One vs Hobie Tour inflatable
« on: December 05, 2013, 07:28:27 AM »
I'm looking an inflatable to tour on ICW and to strap a cooler seat on for longer distances. I have paddled the Naish One and it has speed but I'd like a little more stability. Hobie 12'6" is 32" wide vs 30" for Naish. Will this really give me noticable stability or should I consider a more all round shape??
I saw pics of an event in Wilmington,NC with only Naish Ones and Hobie Tours used. Would love a comparison from someone who has paddled both. Stability is my #1 priority.
