Events / Re: SUP contest ideas please

Where do you maui guys paddlesurf when it's windy (which is almost all the time) ? I've surfed Kanaha and sand piles a few times when I was over there and they were both really fun, however there was no wind. When it's usual trade winds, is the south shore tolerable, or early morning north shore? It seems it would be hard to get a contest together due to the fickle winds and swells on maui.

I used the AKU software on that blue fish that we made. It's pretty easy to use and fun to mess around with. I like how you can move you mouse parallel along your shape and it will tell you the width of the board at any given length. I made my template by taking width measurements from the shape on the computer every 6 inches, then plotted them on a peice of wood, connected them and cut it out.

The tail kick is kinda extreme, maybe smooth out the rocker there. Give the nose a slight more rocker, maybe thin the tail out. Only ridden it in weak waves and so far it's really fun. Hopefully it works as well in so bigger/better surf, I think it'll go alright. I've heard good things about quads, it'd be interesting to try one of them for the next board.

Cramped room, hard to get a good profile...
The nose and tail could be thinned out a little more, but whatever, so far it rides great.
It's a pretty pulled in nose so I think the thickness really helps it for noseriding. It accelerates really well when your up forward and it noserides surprisingly well.

Boots, don't be cruel, send photos  :-X

Here's one photo, maybe i'll try get a profile shot...

I created the outline, my dad and I shaped it in a friends shop with some help from him. It's not epoxy, but it floats us fine and isn't too horribly heavy because it's still a small SUB.
Super stable compared to  our 23.5" wide longboards...

I don't think theres anything over here on kauai. It's hard to find surfboard rentals here, let alone a SUB.

Those footstraps look ridiculous. Unless you're being towed into a wave, you gotta move your feet around to bottom turn, cutback, noseride, etc. Those things would just catch your feet and get in the way. Getting air isn't about just hopping upwards, you gotta launch yourself off the lip; footstraps aren't necessary. That super pulled in nose on the 7'7" probably makes that thing really hard to ride and get into waves. I like how those guys just pile all the boards on the pavement and drag the leashes through the sand. hehe     "the flame ball SUP company" haha

Gear Talk / Board Sock
« on: September 16, 2007, 05:25:55 PM »
Anyone know if a longboard sock would fit over a 26" wide paddle board? Anyone try a board sock on a standup?
Lookin for an inexpensive bag that will just keep the sun off,  I don't really want to custom order somethin.
Thanks
