I thought I would bring this topic up again because I've been seeing quite a few 'ripper' boards around the web. It would be nice to get some of the shapers input on widepoints on ripper boards compared to the round nose all around boards.

Rand, on your new foote board being shaped, is your tail measurement wider or narrower than the nose? It looks like it takes a lot of the design concepts from a regular shortboard with the widepoint slightly back and the pulled nose. Maybe you or Mr. Foote could elaborate on your thoughts about the design of this board.

Yep. Flatter or concave bottoms will be much stabler than rounder bottoms. Some boards have concaves most the length of the board, that probably helps quite a bit with stability also. Just because a board is big doesn't always make it stable; the foil and the bottom contour does a lot.

A 68lb kid could pretty much stand on any regular longboard. Im 130lbs and I've stand up paddled on regular 9ft thin narrow longboards, although I would be underwater when I stopped paddling. No need to buy another paddle board, just get him out on a surfboard.

  My question is, why are there ZERO that are going after the market that wants to check out the shapes that the pros are riding? 

I guess my question to the manufacturers is, why not produce the boards you are personally ripping on for the public?

Probably the main reason is because all the "pros" have all different riding styles, body weights, and heights,  which is why they have custom boards. When a shaper spends the time and money to get a board molded for production, they want to make sure it will work for a wide variety of surfers. Besides, when you start riding bigger waves and progress to a more high performace level, you're gonna want a board that is fitted to your style and size    = custom board.

Depending on how thick your board is, it might fit into a 12' dakine regular longboard bag. My board is 26.5" wide, 3.5" thick and the width fits snuggly into a 10'6" dakine regular longboard bag (not a paddleboard bag). I had a guy cut the nose off right above where the zipper starts so the length fits my 8'10" board. For traveling you could just tape the nose of the bag down like Blane said.

When you get your board on maui just take it to some shops and ask to try fit it in different bags. Windsurf bags and longboard bags will probably be cheaper than any bag designed for a stand-up board. It seams like everything made for stand-ups is over priced.
