I have the Bark 14' custom with carbon bottom. Nice looking board and very nice shape. But I would say it is very low tech. The clear resign on top of the carbon is very beautiful, but a light filler would of course be lighter. I would guess it is not vacuum bagged: heavy and not that strong. Very nice looking laminated - great hand craft - but still low tech. Very sensitive for any kind of abuse. I would totally go for tuff light. Strong and light! As coming from wave sailing I might be a little spoiled with higher tech. Surfing is a lot of tradition, beautiful hand made, but also very undeveloped in terms of tech.
Still love my sensitive 14' custom Bark!

Thank you all for the good advice. I will probably go for a carbon bottom and 27.5 wide. Now I'm trying to figure out a way to ship it for a decent price. I’m checking with some forwarders that have been good to me before. If you have any info regarding cheep shipping of a 14' board LA - Europe, please share it with me.
Have any of you been able to check a 14 footer as luggage flying trans Atlantic?
Aloha!

Hi all, I'm about to order a 14' race Bark. Will use it in flat to choppy Swedish water. From my so far limited email correspondence and a phone call to Joe he seems to be a very nice person to deal with.
About the board I have a few questions (of course I will discuss this with Joe, but would like to hear more opinions):
1) How big difference makes the carbon in performance? With a carbon bottom (glass deck) the board becomes about 27-28 pounds instead of 29-30 and a full carbon saves another 2 pound. I also assume the carbon makes it quit a lot stiffer? Each side is USD300... What are your calls, no, half or full carbon?
2) From the pictures I have found in the web, it does not seem to have a lowered standing area? Why not? Should I ask Joe to incorporate that? Pros, cons?
3) I’m 6’ and 180Ib, will 28’’ be a good width or could I go down to 27 ½’’
Best,
Jesper B

One winter I surfed a McTavish Carver 7'7 surftech. It is the best combination of shortboard style feel and mini-mal/hybrid paddelabillity I have ever come across. /Jesper

Superglue, butterflies, a bootie and of course liquid skin, saved one of my Maui weeks this winter! According to the doctor, superglue is to prefer before stitches if your not staying out of water. Fewer holes in your skin and easier to rip apart if you get staff infection.
Also: If not infected - only clean with fresh water and mild soap, anything stringer delays healing. If infected – a totally different story!

There are so many great pictures of stand up surfing, but who has the fattest tube ride on picture? G-Mac in Pipe? Laird in Teahupoo, or something else?
Would like them all to be posted here!

Is there any picture of him getting a wave (or maybe the opposite)?
Or more general: Where is the fatest barrel with a stand up inside we can find on picture?

Mats. /JB Blane, is it correct the 9-8 and 9-10 are for faster waves and the wider 9-6 more foregiving in slower? I guess the 9-6 is more stable than the 9-8 and 9-10 (with the same fin config) thanks to its width? On your website none of the new boards are presented. What boards are available between 9 and 10 feet? How does the 9-6 wide behave on a bigger wave? Can you still do drawn out bottomturns with comfort?

That sure is a beautiful board. Love that thin and pulled swallowtail. Nice work with the pad!! /JB
