Yes, SouthCounty give it a go! The first two buoys you see in TD's video are both within a reasonable distance from the shore, and really not as "open ocean" compared to what others might be doing, but still gives you the open ocean feeling of dealing with swell, sometimes wind, but all the time exciting.

I'm far from an experience "ocean" paddler, but have done those buoys (and the "flag buoys" that are definitely more "open ocean" being a mile or more out I believe), and do it on a 14'x26", and it really is fun, and quite the experience. I'm sure you'll be fine 14'x27" Blackfish, because IIRC, they have a wider tail, and are pretty stable all things considered...and if not, you can always turnaround once you make the turn out of the harbor, and find it too rough, and only have a short paddle back to the calm behind the breakwater. Go for it! 

sounds like we got a group paddle in the making lol the blackfish I rode this weekend was a demo, my current board is a Infinity 14' wide aquatic and is a whopping 30" wide

SouthCounty--Try it.  If going to the buoy Talldude takes about is too much, try paddling south.
Every day is different.  Go see what you can do.

I will try it soon, at least to the first buoy I have a neighbor who paddles out like TD does he's been trying to get me to go, if not maybe ill follow TD to first one and back lol

Great video, that is my home town spot, as much as I've been paddling their lately I've yet to go out in open ocean, to be honest I'm a little scared lol. I did demo a 14 Infinity blackfish yesterday which i totally fell in love with, it was 14x27, felt pretty good in the harbor but thinking a 28" would be more stable in the open ocean if i ever get out Anyhow great video

just wanted to say I'm am very happy with my decision to purchase a Hippo Stick paddle, I went with the Al Exp 8.0 model, its a carbon fiber composite blend and seems to be getting the job done for now. I was getting a little confused with all the tech stuff on some other paddle makers and these guys seemed to keep it simple, time will tell. Also representing my Ducks on the water as well. ...

   Exactly....... i had some money saved for a sup surfboard to go along with my 14' board until she started riding mine then says i want a board too. So now I'm saving again.
