South - I found these short little coaching clips super helpful... to remind you of the basics, e.g. low center of gravity, look down the line, be on centerline etc...

Thanks those are informative

Thanks for the tips TallDude, hopefully with practice and a little patience ill get this sup surfing thing. BTW glad I didn't spend the money on a higher performance board like the new deal I wanted, defiantly something to work towards ;)

I was there 2 years ago. Lots of resources online to help not to mention right here. My only advice is to fall backwards.. I bruised a rib when I first started out face planting.
Hit my ribs twice yesterday lots of pain today hope they're only bruised, but damn they hurt :(

Waves can be humbling and SUPER FUN!
And doing it on substandard equipment (Like we all did back in the day) makes it even harder
Take the advice you get here and other places get the "right" (NOT NESSARILY THE sTATE OF THE aRT cARBON BOARD) EQUIPMENT (INCL PADDLE)
yOU'LL LEARN FASTER, LESS PAINFULLY, ANDHAVE MORE FUN.

Just my 2 cents

Extreme Windsurfing
Thats exactly why I bought the Infinity great quality

Nice going you're on the way. I'm in the same boat, good on flat water, shitty in the waves. However, determined as well.

I'm looking for my own surf SUP to start on. What made you choose the Aquatic?  Looks like the best deal out there.
I Spoke with Dave Boehne (Infinity owner shaper) and told him what I was looking for and the wide aquatic is what he suggested, I was against it at first especially at 10'4 x 32'. I was wanting something more performance minded, Boy am I glad I listened to him, also got some feedback from other board members here who said the same thing. Its a true surf shape (Long Board) designed by legendary shaper Steve Boehne, plus at 895.00 its a good deal to start with. Good Luck

Took my new wide aquatic out for its maiden voyage today, all I can say is, it was a very humbling experience. I caught maybe three waves which I actually rode, and face planted at least a half dozen times. Spent a shit load of time swimming and falling, (that really tires you out fast). At least the waters warm. ;) Im going to take this as a new challenge and I will stick with it until I get it right. Im going to give mad props to all you sup surfers who got this sport nailed, you truly are my heroes. Until next time KOOKIE out ;)

Gear Talk / New Hippo-stick Triple G
« on: August 05, 2019, 06:30:16 PM »
Picked up the new Hippo Stick triple G today and paddled it for about a hour and a half. My first impression was how light it was 100% 12k carbon. On entry it felt like a hot knife going through butter no flutter at all, its so smooth at the catch and feels like its got a lot of power when you need it. Should be easy on the shoulders. I think this paddle will be very forgiving on long paddles but still pack a punch when you need it to (sprints) anyhow more testing to come. Blade size is 7.1 inches wide  which makes up the 87sq in so far for 420.00 its great, great, great.....se what I did there;)

Enjoy!

be kind to yourself... and others, there is a steep learning curve, but it eases up fairly quickly.

Lean forward, with pressure on your front foot, while catching your first waves.
The tendency is to fall off the back of the board, till you figure this out.

Play on the edges.... with no one near you, so you have a safe place to get the basics down.

ha ha, I remember my first day like it was yesterday..... so amazing and exciting!  Have a blast!
Thanks for the tips, I am a little nervous of how others will react to me, the one thing ill have is I've surfed for many years just not lately, hopefully the learning curve goes quickly for me ;)

Nice looking board. I'm a big fan of 10' length and over boards.

Thanks for sharing the photo of your new board.
