Well if it fits AND it's carbon, I see no other option 8)

I should've mentioned the 55 stab sold a while back.

Another data point to throw in;
The Gong 100cm carbon mast is about 1.4cm thick down near the fuse. The chord is 12.5cm.

PS,  Got the wing today looks great. ;D

Good to hear Fishman :)
Will be curious to know what you think of it.

Nice video Phils :)
Was that you two days ago over in the White Salmon waves around 4? I didn't recognize the board but you looked familiar.

We did Celilo to Rufus again yesterday and it was highest stress run yet. Through Hells Gate was super light wind (for the 3.6) along with much of the way to the Maryhill bridge. Had to do the first half almost completely under wing power, really no rideable waves. Good practice I guess but not really what I'm looking for there. It's 13 miles under paddle power but I clocked 21.4 miles going back and forth so much.

From the bridge down past Rufus though was the usual classic huge smooth rollers, even a mile of that makes it all worthwhile. We should do an all wing downwinder some time this summer.

Great review Dave,
You've tried just about everything in a front wing I'd be interested in. Do you use a smart watch with speed data, curious what average peak speeds would be while winging on this? True aspect ratio on the VXL appears to be around 5.8 making it roughly the same as the M1100 so the VXL is overall a much smaller wing. Can't speak to the thickness and volume as Moses doesn't provide.

Thatspec, It looks like the Veloce wingspan/chord ratio is not that high from the specs on Gong web site
XXL 5.1
XL  4.7
L  4.6
M 4.4

This calculation they offer is used by nobody else I've seen and gives a deceptively low number unfortunately. Typically aspect ratio is calculated as wingspan squared divided by the surface area (cm and cm2). Axis uses projected area which makes sense to me but I suspect the true formula uses actual area.
The 6.3x / 1 for the XXL Veloce was what I calculated from that formula as a way to compare it to the Axis 1150.

Speaking of high aspect, have you guys seen the video of Gunnar winging on the Moses 800 (it's about 10/1 ar if I recall, or maybe that's the 1000)? It was on youtube pretty sure.

Supunk, what's your all up weight (apologies if you've mentioned that already)? The XXL's are huge so I'm assuming over 100kg?
I was thinking the XL Veloce would be my 1st choice for winging (90Kg) but am considering an XXL Veloce for another foray into downwind sup foiling (1st attempts failed miserably). I'm VERY happy with my Axis 1010 but It's hard to justify over $700 bucks for an Axis 1150 as an experiment when I can get three Gong wings for the same price ::) The XXL Veloce is pretty close in aspect ratio to the 1150, 7.7 vs 6.3, with considerably larger area but much lower volume. Unfortunately it'll be months before I get back to the EU and cheap shipping....

Stopped by the event site yesterday and I saw one 'em Admin, nice solid carve more than 3/4 around. I think for that particular one it was just a matter of pushing the LE through the eye of the wind a hair quicker to get back to power, you were there and still flying ;D

I forgot my phone yesterday, couldn't organize a downwind shuttle and thinking it might die off early launched for the first time at 'cheap beach'. I'd do it again, getting out was not that bad. Hoping for two days off, Friday looks good and windy!

I recall OBX Dave mentioning 200 euro to ship an (XL?) Veloce though maybe there were other items in the order. The really amazing thing is that still makes it $200 less than a new Axis 1150 ::)

My gorgeous Gong 100cm carbon mast has been sitting in my living room as art for months now with a Large pro and 40 tail, I just love looking at it. Only kite foiled that setup a couple of times in the early spring and it was fantastic. Probably put 100+ hours on a Large pro and Alu setup so I know the wing well. Finally tried it winging the other day but I only spent half an hour on it as conditions were a brutal 15-40+ with the 3.6 Naish. I was encouraged enough though to continue experimenting, I'm 90Kg and it popped right up so my main concern is resolved, can't really comment on much more than that yet other than it turned nicely and didn't glide as well as the Axis 1010, nothing unexpected. Just sold my untried XL Pro to Fishman so guess I'm committed now.

There is one thread on kiteform here;
https://kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=196&t=2407082 with impressions of the Veloce M and Pro M.
I have the Pro M but haven't tried it yet. Have it for sale too so obviously I'm on the fence.

This has practically been my one wing quiver this season in the Gorge (90Kg all up). You can get going in 15 with good technique and plane through a lot less. On the approx. five days or so the 2.8 might have been better for reaching, it's been just fine for downwinding and gets you home when the 2.8 might not have :)

Seeing a big guy water start a 6m in sub 20 wind has me recalibrating:

Cool, the 6M Swing has a tremendous span too, would be easy to catch a tip. That video starts from the easy part though, he's already knee up. The previous 20 seconds are what I really need to analyze.

There was NOT enough lift to get me on the board.

Therein lies the problem, if there's enough wind to easily waterstart, you've probably rigged too big though that may be the best way to learn the moves.

That Ghetto foil is awesome btw, was that a piece of driftwood? :)

Drop off foil for a brief second. Dawn Patrol will record it as end of wave, and start again.

I'm assuming what's happening is because of the river current there are points where I'm going so slow it's breaking a multi mile ride up into sometimes 3+ waves. It's easy to tell when zooming in what was a fall or stop though as I'll always start out going across the wind.

Robert averaging 17+ over three miles is remarkably quick and sounds like a blast8) Time to do some experimenting....

You are welcome to take it out for a spin.

Thanks, today looks like it's probably a downwinder type of day where I'm too chicken to experiment. Looks like this weekend there'll be some conditions for experiments. I've been holding back on Axis purchases hoping the Gong setup will cover me for higher wind but from my short session yesterday I may be too spoiled now by the 1010's glide. I do really want to try the 460 tail though (and even the 370). I love the 390 and it's not like I'm missing any waves downwinding for lack of speed but if I could go faster at will and still slow it down (and turn) when needed, why not.

If these numbers are correct on the Google doc, (the aspect ratios of the tails don't appear to be i.e. the 340 shows higher than the 370), the 390 has the highest volume of ANY of the Axis tails. Volume of course not the only factor but I was surprised to see this.

390 = 242.55 cc
370 = 123.28
460 = 81.39

Thanks Phils, the new owner has a windfoiling background and is wing curious :o not that there's anything wrong with that...

High wind is great when it's steady, but that was a mess.

Agreed, it was a mess at Viento as well, 15-40+. I would have just gone out from Luhr Jensen but looked too gusty to give the Gong Large Pro a try winging (my kitefoil setup). In retrospect it would have been fine in town early, the 40's at Viento made it more survival than testing foils. So far all I can say is "it works".

Admin, can't wait to get a look at the 860 :)
