Sessions / New England treasures
« on: July 26, 2012, 12:03:57 PM »
I am on vacation visiting my brother at his summer house on the south shore of Massachusetts right by the
Rhode Island border.  Turns out his house is on a rocky point though an onshore wind seems to prevail. Playing with the kids in the neighboring beach break, my imagination was tickled by the possibility of something more.  The second morning awakening to a wind switch, grabbed my bro's new BIC log, and found myself enjoying a beautiful point break.  The swell was only about 2 feet so the board was fine, just happy to get the chance.  Though there were no surfers to be seen,  it must be a local spot.  The coast here is full of secrets.

I guess it comes down to the difference between defending and retaliating.  Most often the threat is past and the emotions are calling for the latter.  As stated here, the person you are facing is a potential loose, maybe chemically fueled, unknown canon.  Things can quickly escalate badly.  Best bet is to point the gopro or smart phone and record for possible later use.  Otherwise tread carefully.  As big and bad as you feel at the moment, there are always bigger and badder out there.

I have abit of a love/hate thing going with the coiled leashes.  Full coil calf in smaller waves works fine.  A coil with ankle hookup can end up under your back foot when you step back on the tail.  Larger waves pull the coil out of shape where it then constantly tangles.

I've been drinking the milk straight from the neighbors cow for the past eighteen years
without a problem.  Boil, cool, drink.  Pregnant woman or those weak of health would be
wise to avoid it due to the chance of sickness (18yrs zero).   Otherwise its delicous and
fresher is hard to come by.  Obvious government gone wild.  Place some personal responsibility
by the citizen, in exchange for increased personal freedom, and save money.

I'm going to be visiting this summer and am looking to rent a bunch of boards to do a group paddle.
Northshore or the great south bay would be the areas of interest.  Anybody got some ideas?

SUP General / Re: At what point do you throw etiquette out the window
« on: June 24, 2012, 11:27:30 AM »
First time I surfed (prone) Malibu I tried with the normal etiquette and realized I'd never get a wave.  On a rented soft top I joined the circus and 'shared' the waves with lots of new friends.  Another time visiting
Rincon decided to just suffer.  Different kind of wave.  Now knowing many a critical eye is on me I won't
lower my standards. I'll use my increased mobility and hope for the best.

Yes, yes!  Thanks for the jolt of stoke.  You could actually feel the ride.

After 3 years, my 11x31 feels like a 4x4, even chop is fun - I'm just over the 200 mark.

It took a bunch of sessions of constant fighting but now I can really enjoy my 9-2 x28.
Go for it.

You guys had such good conditions and size!  Band of brothers from another mother (and sisters).

Thanks for posting the pictures here as the fb was blocking me too.

I'm sure I'm not the only one here that is bummed that drive over to join you guys is just a bit too long.

Hope you guys get some swell and that the local proners oversleep abit.  Looking forward to the recap.

In the video section of the zone is one from a world cup in la torche.  Some of the guys on
the shorter boards had the short paddles colas mentions.  What also is obvious is the
advantage of the shorter paddle for the in the pocket turns.

Too funny, one of the few sup hate stories that didn't grate on me.  Mountain lake sup
must be nice.

Hey colas, thanks for the cool visual on the evolution of your boards - any occas for sale?
The wide point in the middle looks more natural, from a typical surfboard perspective that is.
The wide point forward goes back to the single fin, where unlike in sup, the surfer rode with
the feet much further forward.  Anways ucycle, kinda jealous of ya, good luck with the project.
