I dawn patroled a beachbreak wedge this morning, headhigh faces, clean from two days of offshores. It's a local surf spot. As I walked over the dune I found three surfcasters spread out on it. I was the first surfer to show up, decided to ignore them and paddled out between two of them. I just surfed, some others joined me and fishermen moved on. Piers hold sandbars, surfers and fisherman aren't pleased with each other presence, ain't gonna change.

Yea, various surfs on my all arounds. Usually with the kids to sit next to them abit when they are proning. I prone paddle as I find this more efficient and quicker in tempo than on my knees - continuous pulling force. The other day broke a paddle and waves were too good to quit, stuck paddles in the sand and continued stroking. The sup works fine as a longboard as long as the waves aren't too steep, otherwise the board just has too much energy to deal with without a paddle.

That's cool, peace brother. Would love to try one of your boards though, maybe sometime in your travels to the west side. The only gongs I've seen so far were for 65kg guys.

Don't know how a temp flux would effect the boards but mine are out all winter without a problem. As long as you have boots gloves and a hood and a place to change (got a van for that) it's easy. Getting a waterproof or other seat protection and changing at home has also worked for me when transpo has limited space.

Yea really, I'm writing it all down but will tell nobody. I hope much more will come. The hawaii deal is true, surf everyday somewhere on the island, for the whole year. A lot of the mentioned places have on and off seasons, except bali.

Great analogy. When I describe surfers to a non-surfer, "they are a pack of dogs, waiting for the next bone to get heaved out the window, then dominance and senority will determine who will get to chew".
Yea, localism is a fact of surfing life, as its always been. Sure the vigilante fantasy can feel good but the fact is the stuff that can go down out in the lineup, though a public space, yea, the law enforcement is private. Untill there's a cop there on a board, you on ya own.
First choice is to surf on your own. Best option, as on a sup you can own the place. It's a blast. If you have to surf with a crowd or at a localized spot what really works is to sit on the inside (as much as possible, otherwise next to). Any wave not yet taken is yours, and nobody stresses.
I do this, colas, on a "barge". I do one padlle pop ups, on the inside, standing on the tail of the board. Beginners are on long sup, but not all long sups are ridden by beginners. Lets keep the long/short love here in the zone. Though they look terrible next to a shortboard, once loose on a wave they are great too.

You should keep that to yourself. This will become some visitor zoner travel guide. Look for me out on the donkey barge with the zoner tee shirt.

In Hawaii you can live cheap a bit up island and if you can drive, surf every day of every season the whole year. Oahu has four surfable sides, all reachable by car.

$500-600 a month, ouch. Van and 4x4, kids, job commute. The surf doesn't get more than 15-20 min r/t so not the real killer, just everyday life does it.

Thanks alot guys! You scored some sick lake waves. And great effort to post the photos and vid - that's the life of the zone.

You're right, the tow opened up the big waves to more than dare to paddle into them (us included). But there lies the irony of the masses not respecting us at jaws, their hate(fear) of sup blinds them- we aren't surfing?! But the towed guy is!
But then, the masses don't know how much fun we're having.

State of art "paddle in" session, thanks chef. Typical lame surfline standup edit. Would have loved to have seen Robbie's other waves.
Winter is coming!
