Gear Talk / paddle blades replaceable?
« on: August 23, 2012, 04:18:45 AM »
Stupid fall broke the blade of my kialoa.  It looks like it could be removed and a new one
mounted.  Anybody try to do this?
Thanks, Jay

Sessions / New England treasures
« on: July 26, 2012, 12:03:57 PM »
I am on vacation visiting my brother at his summer house on the south shore of Massachusetts right by the
Rhode Island border.  Turns out his house is on a rocky point though an onshore wind seems to prevail. Playing with the kids in the neighboring beach break, my imagination was tickled by the possibility of something more.  The second morning awakening to a wind switch, grabbed my bro's new BIC log, and found myself enjoying a beautiful point break.  The swell was only about 2 feet so the board was fine, just happy to get the chance.  Though there were no surfers to be seen,  it must be a local spot.  The coast here is full of secrets.

I'm going to be visiting this summer and am looking to rent a bunch of boards to do a group paddle.
Northshore or the great south bay would be the areas of interest.  Anybody got some ideas?

Gear Talk / epoxy vs. fiberglass - flotation comparison
« on: May 16, 2011, 07:09:25 AM »
Would like to get a custom shape and want to better understand how the smaller volume of a fiberglass board effects the flotation compared to a similar length epoxy.  I'm trying to get my old surfboard shaper to try a sup shape.  He has a slightly 'fished out' shortboard shape that I can visualize all puffed up into a sup.

Gear Talk / my poor PSH
« on: May 07, 2011, 11:45:42 AM »
This is a first post but also a plea for help.
My first board, forty years ago, was a pig shape.  Single fin, twin, thruster all followed and the last surfboard I rode was a longboard.  Suffering from worn shoulders an
idea formed when I discovered my 1st standupj at the end of 2009.
Within a few months I naively obtained two  28"wide PSH boards.  Couldn't stand up!
Humbled, I found a used 32x12' board and the love affair began.  Two months later I broke it, sold the 9'3"ripper, got a PSH31x11' and been on it since.
Everything, ripples to 10', windslop to barrels.
A couple of weeks ago I bounced it off a sandbar and the 10" fluid dreams fin broke the finbox.  Wanting to keep in touch and support my old shaper I brought it to him for repair.
Disaster.  By accident he somehow filled up the whole tail area with a huge amount of resin.  The board is now super heavy with a substantially aft shifted balance point.
Are there any possible desperate measures that can save the board?
