Where are you guys ordering the quad sets from?

All my usual suppliers (online) are not showing these (or some of the other cool fins from Future's site) yet.

This same thing brewed up with kitesurfers and homeowners and beachgoers out in Kailua.

The kiters started self policing and getting professional instructor qualifications to promote safe use of kites in crowded conditions.

I know a bunch of the kiters out there have embraced SUP - maybe they can share lessons learned to prevent a SUP ban...

Nice!

These stories should be out in the press as much as the SUP bashing stories.

I'd use it - like you said, there are limitations with the current Garmin software and others.

I've tried the Glide - good board if you're limited in length you can store.

The guys who let me try the glide spoke very highly of the prototypes for the 14' Bark.  May be an option if you have access to a dealer who is in the Surftech network.

If you go custom, the sky is the limit (the Footes look very good as do the SICs - but the feedback I've gotten from my friends on Oahu is the unlimited Barks are killing it right now in windy-downwind conditions), but keeping in the production realm, I would go with the surftech bark 14'

Those rails look perfect!

What glassing schedule are you going to go with?

Is the blank EPS?

I went to this last year down in Del Mar.  Walden had my 9'6" on display and Tim Stamps was another big SUP contributor.

Well worth the $10 or so I had to pay to get in.

If you're like me, it was like walking into purgatory - all those boards and me fighting the urge to pull out my credit card and let myself go...  My wife and kids were with me so I had to keep my composure, but the things that were going on inside my head....

Make plans now if you surf or paddlesurf.

I second the local knowledge comment -

You should at least call Joe Bark to talk about what he would shape you based on what you will paddle in.  For that matter you could also call Steve Boehne (Infinity - this is who I ultimately went with for my 12'6" ocean racer).

The SIC will do awesome in swell+wind, but isn't it a molded, hollow board?  I that case, unless Mark can put an adjustment in the mold, the rocker will not suit the "less" swelly conditions.

If you get a custom from Mark, you can then get it made for your conditions and then it doesn't really matter who you go with (they are all awesome).

Gear Talk / Re: Uli 10' Lopez
« on: February 18, 2009, 06:22:00 AM »
How does the Lopez Uli differ from the Steamroller Uli?

Is the nose pulled in more (from what I can tell from the pictures)?  Is it thinner/lighter?  There was talk (in this forum?) about using different materials to lighten up the boards.

I saw this board at the Hano-Hano race, but I didn't know it was the Lopez model.  There were also other Uli boards there, but again I didn't think to ask which was which.

My bad -

SUP General / Re: Talking with Robby Naish.
« on: February 10, 2009, 09:23:04 AM »
I agree with all the statements about Robby being down to earth.

When I lived on Oahu, I saw the transition from custom wavesailing boards to cobra factory production lines and the beginning of kitesurfing.

Robby would pop into the shop periodically and it was nothing for him to stop and talk story with any and everyone hanging out.

In the morning - he was one of the regular joggers along Kailua Beach.  Then later in the day you would see him blasting on the latest kite gear - still stoked to stop and talk to anyone on the beach about what the latest and greatest gear was.

This same vibe came from anyone at the shop  - Des, Sean, Dieter, Noel and all the Naish's.

I have only been through Kailua periodically since I left Oahu, but the same vibe still exists - if you want to see what is coming out, go in a check it out - I first saw the 9'6" quad prototype on the rack in the shop 4 months before it came out.

Thanks for the Aloha Robby and Kailua crew!!!
