SUP General / "Living The Stoke 2 Fiji" Movie Release
« on: March 30, 2015, 03:54:27 AM »
This is the latest in my Living The Stoke series of movies. "Living The Stoke 2 Fiji ď My heart and soul has gone into this , with over a year of editing to get it up on line.We set ourselves on the picturesque Coral Coast in Fiji and we scored some epic waves at Cloud Break on our Sups. Keahi de Aboitiz 2 times and current world champion pulled off some crazy big barrels on his kite board. The whole family came along on this one to give the movie a warm family feel and great story line. Itís a movie for everyone showcasing great waves and a really relaxed vibe with the Fijian locals..

The whole movie was shot on location for it's 3 week shoot and everyone in the movie paid their own way to be in it. The premier is on this Easter Saturday 4th of April. Check out the trailer I hope you enjoy it.

SUP General / Mass Jelly Fish
« on: January 18, 2015, 09:58:58 PM »
We have the worst case of mass Jelly Fish schools in years. In some spots it looks like you can walk over them. I bolted on a GoPro to a windsurfer fin and went for a paddle. I ended up dropping in a couple of times because they hit the fin and camera so hard.

Is it called a school of Jelly Fish ?

SUP General / Zero Cant & Toe Fins on a Sup
« on: December 23, 2014, 01:16:06 AM »
First up please don't take this as a JP plug but I get so bashed on my straight fin theory I want to explain how it works and post a couple of videos to prove my point. I have my flame suit on so fire away. So here goes it  8) I know there are new boxes on the market that let you adjust the fins but this post relates to production Sups.

The theory behind the straight zero cant & toe fins is speed and power return from your turns. It's been used for years in Windsurfers & Kite boards nothing new. Have a look at your rear fins in your quad set they are zero cant and reduced or no toe. Tow boards are the same with minimal cant and toe. Another thing is FCS have zero 5 & 9 degree cant boxes so the FCS fins are straight except for ones like the H2's. Unless you get a custom board and specify cant boxes you get straight like all the Sup production boards , that means you are already riding zero cant but didn't realise like the rears in your quads.

Future boxes are all straight so the cant is built into the fins but even Futures are now offering reduced cant fins. I have taken it a step further with my VP fins and you can now buy zero cant with a future base. I've had heaps of emails from shapers of 30+ years saying it can't work , my reply is what happened when you tried it ? answer "I never have"...Boom I rest my case.

SUP General / Dave Kalama Tour Downunder
« on: December 19, 2014, 06:07:29 PM »
I had the great pleasure of spending a few days with the man himself Dave Kalama on his tour in Australia. He gave some great tech talks and generally just shared the stoke with his new Imagine range.
This is a sneak peak I put together of part of trip in Melbourne & Sydney.

SUP General / BOP Crash Kai v Connor
« on: October 06, 2014, 01:28:36 AM »
This is pretty interesting Kai trying to fade Connor and Connor steps his board onto Kai's bringing them both down. Who's at fault or is this just racing. I'm sure a lot worse happens on the turn buoy.

SUP General / Molokai Sup Race 2013
« on: July 29, 2013, 02:40:33 AM »
Big day for the Aussies in tough conditions but it goes to show what a tactical race this is with Kai and Connor taking the North line not covering Travis Grant on the South line or Scott Gamble as the crow flies. This race can really be a throw of the dice hedging your beats on wind , current and who think can win. The race came down to the wire with only a few miles to go. I followed it on sup racer with Kai , Connor and Travis spread out across the ocean all equal first with Scott back in 6th. Bad day for Danny Ching blowing his shoulder with only 45mins to go.

Scott Gambles (HI) run home was amazing to come second , so was Travis Grant (Aus) 10min lead to win. The Aussies had an amazing day with Terrene Black (Aus) taking out the womens along with  all the prone riders to claim 5 Gold overall. Great effort by the Hawaiians to take 7 of the top 10 places in mens but just couldn't get the main prize. Hopefully this will be the shot in the arm for the Hawaiians to finally compete in the sup world titles in 2014.

SUP General / Merimbula Classic in Aus Video
« on: November 30, 2012, 04:02:56 AM »
This is short video of Australia's longest running contest the Merimbula Classic , it's in it's 32nd year with 265 competitors in wind kite & 110 suppers . There are no heats or finals you just free surf for 4 days with secret judges. You pay your $110 and get a shirt and as much food you can eat off the Bar-B-Que over the 4 days and every competitor wins a prize.

Fancy dress Bop & down wind races this is what it's all about. Every major brand is there with the full range to test and try out their gear...Put it on your bucket list.
