Thinking about buying a downwind board like the Appletree Skipper for super light wind winging. Is the ability to get up in almost nothing for real? The few video reviews I’ve seen make it look great. Cheers!

Located in Crescent City, Ca I’m done with hard to turn big wings. Just don’t have the patience to learn to ride the 999. The cool kids say the 1201 is the bomb. Hmm. Love the BSC 890 for winging and Spitfire 1100 with Foildrive. Probably would have had more success with an HD mast but oh well. Buyer pays shipping and PayPal fee. Some Scratches from laying tips in sand. Each wing used no more than a few times. Don’t want to sell separate. Just want to get them out of my van and be done with it.

Yesterday at Floras Lake in Oregon I was loving the gusts on my 3m Starboard/Airush until I wasn’t. I could have held on but decided to force myself to use the 2m even though I don’t consider it “magic” in the way the 3m is. I had fun when it was really blowing but the minute it started to drop slightlythe wing just sucked -still. Yes I was glad that I could shoot upwind holding a tiny wing without having my arms pulled out of their sockets but most of the time I was having to concentrate on managing the wing in place of ripping backside like slashes off of small chop on my Axis 920/370 like I pretend to do. It was nice having one of Dwight’s flat bottom boards to get a running start when the gusts hit-that allowed me to pump my back foot enough to pop up (yes I still like low aspect wings!) Pumping the wing was not an option-there just isn’t any material there to “scoop” the wind like the 3m and my 6m Fone Sling. The wing is just off balance especially when hooking into my harness. I found out that I can use it almost comfortably if I move my hands down to the two middle handles and just ride downwind but geez really? I saw beginners having an easier time on 3m BRM and Dart wings than I was with the trailing edge of both of my Starboard wings flapping like crazy in monster gusts. Next year I think I’ll be getting something closer to a 2.8 that can handle nukin gusts. Cheers!

Last spring I promised myself I would have a 2m wing for those bombing spring days. Got the 2m Air Rush wing because I really like the 3m from the same company. Nice thick comfortable handles and the wing does seem to absorb gusts as advertised. Once Problem is that when I took out the 2m it was super twitchy and worst of all the front handle seemed to be too far forward? Way to much pull on my front hand compared to any of my F1 swings and the Air Rush 3m. I usually pump one lb beyond what the wing says. I’m going to try the recommended pressure today. Anyone else have the same issue? Cheers!

Hello PonoBill, I posted on your Foilzone thread. My eyes are bugging out after searching all day for a couple of 6s 22ah lipo batteries. Do you have a favorite site where you buy such things? I’m also trying to figure out the potted motor mount. I bought a 3d printer but have no idea what I’m doing!
Cheers!

This guy (Rulof Maker) could probably figure something out. He also made “foot propellers” out of beer aluminum beer bottles. Lol!

Hey Dave, After our mutual hassles with getting our Gong V1 7m wings last summer I got a quiver of Fone wings and pretty much gave up on the 7m. When I did try it on really light slop onshore days I would be out there flapping that 7m wing like a fool and whining about only short runs in the gusts. When you posted that video of your buddy on his V2 Gong wing at a lake I decided to give my 7m another try -only this time I decided to see what would happen if I pumped the wing up to max recommended 10psi instead of the usual 8. I figured if it exploded it would at least be entertaining. Wow! That thing pretty much flew along by itself. All I had to do was pump my backhand like a windsurf sail and I got instant power. Had one of my best sessions ever on my 6’6” Kalama with an Axis 1020/440 kit. Now I kinda understand more how important it is to have a stiff leading edge on these things.

Hey who put a kiddie pool valve on my wing?!!! Good god. I looked on the middle strut and there it was totally open! In my defense the 4.2 and 5m swingwings do’t have that valve so I totally wasn’t looking for it. Had a pretty good sesh with it today but could have been more confortable on the 5m. I liked not having to pump the 6m as much to get started like I do with the 5m. I’m looking forward to seeing what it can do in lighter wind compared to the 7.2 Gong V1. Thanks for the help! Cheers!

That’s it-the dump valve to the main strut-the little hose with the black O rings-how do I get it off to check it? Yes Pono Bill I regularly can be heard calling myself “dummy!” for not closing the main valve before pumping up the wing-LOL!

Brand new Fone 6m Swingwing right out of the bag. Pumped it up and noticed hissing coming from the black O ring. Gong sent me a replacement hose with my 7m and it is one piece I believe. Is Fone the same? Should I try and yank it off to check it? What a bummer! Luckily the wind kicked in enough for my 5m. I was pretty pissed on the beach with my brand new 5’1” wing board from Dwight and a hissing wing! Cheers

Thanks for the info! I’m thinking about buying the 3m since I can’t find any Fone or Naish wings that are actually in stock-learned my lesson last summer-no wing in hand-not getting my money! Does the Ozone absorb gusts well? When It gets windy enough where I wing the gusts are of the nukin kind.
Cheers!

Just as a side note. If you are using an Fone with a harness. I was underpowered on my 4.2 wing , a Kalama 6’6” foil board and an Axis 1020/500. I was pumping like a madman trying to get up. As I got the board pumping matching the rhythm of my wing, my Fone rope harness l caught me right in the eye. I saw a flash and then my upper eyelid swelled up. Kept winging but it still hurts a few days later!
