SouthEast / Re: Hilton Head Island, SC - should I bring SUP
« on: August 13, 2019, 11:19:57 AM »
This time of year, pop-up thunderstorms are close to the daily norm on the SC coast. The beaches empty out and as soon as the day-trippers are stuck in traffic the skies clear. My collection of beach towels were all harvested after pop-up thunderstorms.

Years ago my friend used to have trouble getting through the gates at HH to visit his in-laws with a windsurfer on the roof so an inflatable might be the right stealthy
Approach.

Rates on weekly house rentals get really reasonable in the fall. At least one of the rental agencies has a very specific search engine - filter for pets, # of bedrooms, smoking, wi-fi, etc. They also don’t take huge damage deposits, just roll a small insurance policy into the price.  I would at least get an idea of the price vs a RV rental.

Last week I saw a woman obviously on her first day with the paddle backwards. I opened with a compliment  “ hey you’re doing great  to even be out in the ocean. I know experienced surfers who spent days in the flat water before coming out here”.  Then, once I’ve established credibility and good guy cred, “if you don’t mind my telling u, your paddle s backwards”.  That took. BUT, when her guy took his turn, there it was backwards again. I guess his was bigger

Lots of folks voted for Trump for that reason, I liked Howard Schultz for the same reason till he dropped out.  Somebody is taking the Dems seriously - there’s a big scare campaign on the tube about Medicare for all

I hope you’ll check out the non-invasive treatments such as massage, chiropractic, CBD oil and juju beads before going under the knife. Even the SaltWater Cure might be called for, tho it’s traditionally Rx’d for depression.  Hope you’re better soon,

Below is the text from an Email Surfrider just sent out.  They seem to do more big picture PR and lobbying than actual beach stuff. I support them as well as the local club.

Hands Across the Sand 🏝️---------- Original Message ----------
Join us for the 10th Annual 🤝 Hands Across the Sand Event

Help us to once again raise our Hands and Voices to send a strong message - letting our leaders (and the world) know that South Carolina says NO to offshore drilling, NO to seismic blasting, and YES to clean energy.

We will join hands in a line as long as possible, forming both a physical and metaphorical line in the sand, standing up for our coast. There will be a second lineup in the water for surfers 🏄‍♀️- so make sure to grab your board!

Details:
10am 🏖️ Surfrider Foundation Charleston will lead a beach sweep with all supplies provided.
11:30am🎙️ Elected officials and other community leaders will speak out against offshore drilling in a press conference.
12pm 🤝 Form a line in the sand / water and pose for a picture!

The event will be on the beach, just to the west of the pier (near Tides Hotel).
COME EARLY BECAUSE PARKING AND WALKING TO THE BEACH CAN TAKE A WHILE!

BRING SIGNS AND INVITE FRIENDS!

Hands Across the Sand events will be taking place all across the world! 🌎 More information here: https://handsacrossthesand.org/events-coming/

Any locksmith should be able to make a mechanical key as long as he can get a blank. I got one made for my Corolla no problem.  I’d still want to keep it dry to avoid saltwater in the cylinder.

Does anybody actually use the key pockets in the leash cuff?

if trumps says it, fact check it immediately--before you even consider the meaning, let alone share the message with anyone (lest you make a fool of yourself for believing/disseminating

Not just Trump. In journalism, they say “If your mother says she loves you, check it out”.  If you’ve ever been present at an event that was reported in the media and compared their version with what you saw, you’ve seen huge differences.

I don’t know about that.  Remember when David Letterman brought the docs who did his heart surgery on the show?   They were the same docs who operated on my b-in-law ( who turned 95 this year) . I believe he was on Medicare at the time.

I think it was Marx that said “under capitalism man exploits man. Under communism it’s just the opposite” but it probably wasn’t Karl

My wife and I have got in the habit of eating one square of dark chocolate after lunch.  For some reason, it leaves us totally satisfied, unlike Oreos or candy bars which zoom through the body and leave you wanting more.  Anybody gotta clue?

I wonder if there is a civil suit in the wings.  Whether or not Kevin is vindictive, his insurance company would like to recover  what they are paying for his injuries.  After knee surgery, I got a form letter inquiring who might be responsible and liable.
“Did it happen at work?  In a car? Whose property? “  I told them it happened on God’s property - he tripped me.

Dunno either but there’s one on the Charleston, SC Craigslist  for  $589.  And the map shows State College, Pa.  something fishy

The lesson is that when “please and thank you” and consideration for others don’t work, you have to follow the advice of that old joke “quick, show her your nuts!”
