I signed up for a double blind study with the J & J vaccine in October. No reaction at all so I figured I got the placebo. They told me if I could get an appointment for an approved vaccine they would unblind me. In February I called to get unblinded and they told me I had the real vaccine. FWIW, I am 75 so that theory may have some merit.

There’s a few guys doing that on Isle of Palms, also SUP foiling. Mostly at the  Breach Inlet  end.

Years  before Covid a restaurant inspector for the state told me people ask him where he eats and he always tells them "I eat at home".  My beach bud just the other day said a restaurant owner said he would never eat at his own restaurant, based on what he knew.

The local paper's restaurant critic just put this up a day ago -https://www.postandcourier.com/blog/raskin_around/these-9-restaurants-are-the-safest-places-to-eat-in-charleston-area-our-food-critic/article_1ad84f7a-f386-11ea-9926-5fef8797c70e.html

SUPs too are a seller’s market.

Costco has no SUPs, never had the 9’6 Wavestorm, no inflatables, not even inflatable kayaks. Plenty 8’ Wavestorms and body boards. I see lots of foamies in the water, usually sold without the tip to wax the bejesus out of ‘em.

I ran across a couple w inflatables atop their SUV outside a closed sporting goods store looking to buy a paddle.  Spoke with anothrrr newb on an inflatable in the waves yesterday.  He bought his on Amazon, came w a paddle but of course he had it backwards.  He tended to porkulence so I told him how I went down a pants size after my first 30 days of daily paddling.

I just decided this thing is going to be around a long time so I ordered some serious masks online. I’ve been using paper masks in stores on the theory that anything is better than nothing but as I hear more and more horror stories, I want to do all I can to stack the odds in my favor.

My current beach bike is going on 16 months since I paid $20 for it at Goodwill. A few miles on the beach daily with my dog. I figured it was time to get a replacement lined up a few months ago. Goodwill had a Schwinn MTB  they wanted $50 for that I should have jumped on but didn’t. I went back a week later and they had a single speed unknown brand for $100.  I was in 2 Walmart’s and a Target last week and the closest thing to an adult bike was a 24” MTB. I did manage to score a pump.

There’s no mystery around here where they went. The roads are full of bikes, all day, everyday.

Funny but in the beginning of the lockdown when people were releasing their inner Marie Kondo’s, there were plenty bikes at Goodwill and by the roadside for the taking.

Here is the Outcome of original story.

From The New York Times: How New Jersey’s First Coronavirus Patient Survived James Cai’s case was completely new to his doctors. When he grew severely ill, he tapped a network of Chinese Chinese-American medical colleagues who helped save his life. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/05/magazine/first-coronavirus-patient-new-jersey.html?smid=em-share

The paywall is lifted for most corona virus articles.

I can’t offer any help, being on the wrong coast except to suggest that it sounds like a great  topic for a first-person article  for a local publication.  I can only sympathize, being an escaped dental patient myself.

Plus one on giving the retailer and Starboard a chance to make you happy.  You may have voided any warranty by doing your own repairs but let them tell you that. Companies spend tons on advertising and PR that can get neutralized by one unhappy guy on a forum.

The mast was bent each time. The third time they paid the claim and didn’t renew the policy.  Never weaseled on a claim.

When I had a catamaran, I got  a rider to my homeowner’s policy. I was reading the policy one day (rtfp as they say in the biz) and noticed it excluded storing on the beach and sailing in the ocean, making it useless.  I got a separate stand-alone policy which had a $100 deductible and a $70 premium.  It paid 3 large claims over the years.  It came under the classification of Inland Marine.
