Nope. The ass rockets were out at SanO with a vengeance today. Not one of them has any concept of sharing the waves, rotation, maybe stoking another guy, or gal, on. They just ride their conveyor belt round and round like little oblivious gophers on a golf course.
One notorious butt scooter was bragging that he'd been out for three hours, best reply was "yeah, I could be out three hours too if I was just sitting on my ass." He came steaming over at me from 30 yards away like a crazed windmill when I was lining up a nice juicy peak, back paddled me and took off in front of me as he whooped and hollered on the right. I went left into a close out and right to the showers. I'm trying real hard not to be a hater, but I'm beginning to hate those guys. I did have a talk with one who dropped in on me a few months back and now he stays away from me, maybe it's time to have "the talk" with a few more.

Those guys are more of a coffee klatch than anything. They always remind me of a clump of cherrios just floating around aimlessly getting all soggy together.

On another note, what about the HPWA approaching the Surfrider Foundation and double teaming the SanO ban?
If they decline, at least we have a better idea who our friends, and enemies, are.

I love the look of these rigs and they have received great write ups. I was looking at ordering the 7-10 Airborn.  Called my local dealer to place the order:

 2850$!!!???

What does SB make these things out of? Gold bullion and bald eagle heads?
I obviously passed, who's buying at that price and how do they expect to move these things?

There is a red and white sign on the beach facing north, it's just adjacent to the creek and you can see it from the water. The sign is the boundary between the state beach and the Marine beach, it warns beach goers that they are entering Camp Pendleton, blah blah blah. South of that we are good all the way to the SanO north parking lot. The campground even rents SUPs at the main office just behind the, in renovation, Pendelton beach club up on the bluff. I have schooled more than one uninformed proner, but the lifeguards are supposed to know these things. We used to get away from all the proners and surf in front of the port johns, it worked out great and everyone had their space, but this is too far north. So fine, let's just park on the peak in front of the cross and the disgruntled prone daddys can blame the fuzz.

"The sisters say they saw several shrimping boats as they floated in the sea but none saw them. They ultimately made the lifesaving decision to ditch their paddleboards and swim to shore, even though they had no idea where that shore would be."

That lifesaving decision was, more likely than not, a life ending decision.
Nevertheless I'm glad they are ok, they were very lucky.

So we're 7 days and a wake up from the 26th.
I'll be there with a laminated water proof copy of the rules. Already have four other guys committed.
Who else is in, SupSurfisSurf? We gotta have an attorney, I learned that important bit of advice from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: Never take on a job like this without a lawyer on board, and at least “two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls."

Gotta have our attorney but maybe better to just skip the dope and go to Pipes afterwards.

“Jesus! Did I SAY that? Or just think it? Was I talking? Did they hear me? I glanced over at my attorney, but he seemed oblivious...”

Trail 1, 0900 on the 26.

On my 7-8 King Sims up I have about the samevery catching capabilities as a decent long boarder on a 9-6
I do notice however  that I have a lower wave count at Church because I'm really conservative and stay clear of the proners. Can't really go catch the leftover shoulder slop with that short of a board.

Combed the internet and really couldn't find any. So does anyone have some gouge on training techniques or good drills?
I just picked up a 14' x 26" Manta and really dig it. Want to use it for staying in shape and mid distance races on the weekends when all the breaks are jammed up.
Thanks all.

Tim Reid? Et tu?
Loved you as Venus Flytrap on WKRP. And here I'd always thought it was Johnny Fever who was kind of the dick...

Right on Ralph, I'm on my way to Ace. I remember renting them down in Pacific Beach by the pier when I was a kid. They were also the blue ones with yellow ends and a rope. Lost many a Fed-Mart fin at the pier on my rented surf mat.

I'm in for the 26th at 0900.
Trail 1? Just because I think it breaks better than 6.
We are ultimately there to surf after all.
Every one should print out a copy of the rules and laminate it so we can all break it out if it goes down with the fuzz.

I just discovered that "ATX" stands for Austin Texas.
So there you go...

Gear Talk / Re: So I think I know why the guy sold me his Nugg...
« on: June 30, 2014, 07:56:34 PM »
The Nugg is 9-2, Nugget is 8-0. I have the carbon turbo Nugg and it's a blast. Plenty stiff, great for weak SanO mush, but I've also head it out in overhead Nukes and was loving it.  That's the only day I ever forgot a leash, I had actually lent it to a friend who had forgotten his the day before at SanO. It was small and mushy so no worries, but then Nukes starts firing. Now I wouldn't surf without a leash in those conditions but there is not a soul on the inside there so I go for it. Great fun for about 45 minutes until this double overhead sneaker set catches the 4 of us, yes all 4 of us, napping. I didn't quite make it, the lip stripped the board out from under me, and I was looking at a 250 yard swim to the beach. The most awesome thing was that just about 2 hours prior  a friend told me that one of the locals swam right under her board there the day before and it was 9'+. Bailed on my paddle and put the coals to it, I do not like being anywhere on the food chain but the top of that pyramid, it's a VERY uncomfortable feeling.
